Online applications for Indian Navy 2019 recruitment Executive and Technical Engineering branches

Are you a fresh Engineering graduate looking for opportunities to join the Indian Navy? Online applications will be open from 12th January to register and join the Indian Navy in the Executive and Technical Branches. This article provides complete information on the eligible engineering streams and other criteria to join the Indian Navy as PC or SSC Officers in the executive and technical branches.


Indian Navy is providing an opportunity for engineering graduates as well as those currently in their final year of the engineering course to join the Executive and Technical branches. Eligible male candidates who are unmarried can register online up to 1st February 2019. Those eligible for more than one Branch/Cadre can mention their preference in the application, but only one application per candidate is allowed. Those not shortlisted for the first preference may be considered for an alternate branch/cadre based on the available slots there. Those who are applying for Technical Branch cadre may be allotted Air Technical Specialization or appointed as Air Technical Officers by IHQ MoD (Navy) and, on commissioning, they can also volunteer for Submarine Specialization. In addition to the eligible streams of engineering (details below), the candidate should fulfil the conditions of nationality as laid down by the Government of India as well as the requisite medical standards for eyesight and physical standards for height and weight (refer to the official notification for details).

One can be promoted from the rank of Sub Lieutenant up to the rank of Commander on a time scale basis subject to completion of mandatory courses, sea time and medical standards. Eligibility criteria

You should have passed the engineering degree exam from an AICTE-recognized institute or should be in the final year of an engineering degree course from a recognised educational institute with 60% marks till the fifth/seventh semester in a regular/integrated course respectively. Age-wise, you should be born between 2nd January 1995 and 1st July 2000.

Executive Branch Cadre

Naval Armament Inspection Cadre (NAIC)

There are 12 vacancies for Permanent Commission (PC).

There are 27 vacancies for General Service (GS) and 3 vacancies for Hydrography cadre for Short Service Commission (SSC).

Eligible stream: BE/B.Tech. in any discipline.

Technical Branch Cadre

Engineering Branch (General Service)

There are 28 vacancies in the Engineering Branch (General Service) for Short Service Commission (SSC).

The following are the B.E./B.Tech. eligible streams: (i) Electrical (ii) Electronics (iii) Tele Communication (iv) Electronics & Communication (v) Power Engineering (vi) Power Electronics (vii) Electronics & Instrumentation (viii) Instrumentation & Control (ix) Instrumentation.

How to apply

Those eligible must register and apply online only at the Indian Navy e-recruitment website from 12th January 2019 up to 1st February 2019. It is advisable to read the instructions and guidelines for online registration and application before proceeding to fill up the e-application form.
Identity proof is mandatory for online registration. Ensure that all relevant documents are scanned preferably in original and have clarity as illegible ones will result in a rejection of the application.

The documents required include:
  1. Marks sheets up to 5th semester for a regular course and up to 7th semester for an integrated course.

  2. Proof of Date of birth proof (this should be as per 10th& 12th certificate). Misplaced the birth certificate? Learn how to apply for a duplicate birth certificate.

  3. CGPA conversion formula for BE/B.Tech. if required.

  4. A recent passport size colour photograph.

Selection process

Shortlisted candidates will be intimated via email/SMS called for SSB interviews in select cities. They can choose a suitable date at their application dashboard on the official website. The interview has two stages, with the first one including tests of Intelligence, Picture Perception and Discussion and only successful candidates of this stage will move on to the next stage. The second stage includes Psychological testing, Group testing and an Interview (four days' duration). Those who are successful will undergo a medical exam which will cover three to five days approximately and all those who are recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit will be appointed for subsequent training.
