How to submit online applications for CLAT-2019 for UG and PG law courses India


Want to pursue a UG or PG law program in India? Looking for the Common Law Admission Test-2019 (CLAT-2019) dates? This article provides complete information about CLAT-2019, including the entrance test schedule, eligibility criteria and the application procedure.

Last year it was decided that the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLU) would have a permanent administrative office at National Law School of India University, Bengaluru where it has its Headquarters. A core committee of the consortium would organize all aspects of the annual Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). Now the Consortium of NLU has issued the registration notification for CLAT-2019.

About CLAT-2019

All those who are seeking admission to the Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) Degree programs in Law for the academic session beginning in 2019 to any of the 21 National Law Universities in India must register and appear for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT-2109).

Note that only Indian Nationals/NRIs/NRI-sponsored candidates can appear for CLAT-2019. However, foreign nationals who wish to pursue UG/PG courses in any of the participating NLUs can directly contact the concerned University which has seats reserved for foreign nationals.

There are 19 NLUs to which you can seek admission for their UG and PG programs. The list is-

  2. National Academy of Legal Study and Research (NALSAR), University of Law, Hyderabad.
  3. National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal.
  4. The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata.
  5. National Law University (NLU), Jodhpur.
  6. Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur.
  7. Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar.
  8. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU), Lucknow.
  9. Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab.
  10. Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna.
  11. The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi.
  12. National Law University Odisha (NLUO), Cuttack.
  13. National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi.
  14. National Law University and Judicial Academy (NLUJA), Assam.
  15. Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU), Visakhapatnam.
  16. Tamil Nadu National Law School (TNNLS), Tiruchirappalli.
  17. Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Mumbai.

Eligibility requirements

The UG program is a five-year integrated law degree program for which the eligibility criteria is as follows -
You must have a Pass class in the 10+2 or an equivalent exam with a minimum of 45% marks or its equivalent grade. This percentage requirement is for candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories. For candidates belonging to SC/ST categories, the requirement is 40% of marks or equivalent grade.

Candidates appearing for the qualifying exam in March/April 2019 are also eligible to apply.

For PG programs

The PG program is a one year LL.M. Degree program for which the eligibility criteria is as follows-
You must have an LL.B. Degree or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of 55% of marks or its equivalent grade. This percentage requirement is for candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories. For candidates belonging to SC/ST categories, the requirement is 50% of marks or equivalent grade.

Candidates appearing for the qualifying exam in April/May 2019 are also eligible to apply.

CLAT-2019 Question Paper pattern for UG admissions

There will be 200 questions of one mark each, with a total of 200 marks for the 2-hour paper. Negative marking will be applied for incorrect answers.

The subjects include-
  1. English including comprehension (40 marks): Your proficiency in English will be tested, with a comprehension passage in one section and understanding of grammar in the other section.
  2. General Knowledge and Current Affairs (50 marks): This will test your knowledge generally as well as how updated you are in national and international current ongoings.
  3. Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability) (20 marks): Elementary mathematics which is taught up to Class X will be tested.
  4. Legal Aptitude (50 marks): Your ability to solve problems, your aptitude for research and reasoning will be tested.
  5. Logical Reasoning (40 marks): This does not include visual reasoning, It simply tests your ability and acumen in identifying patterns and being able to identify logical/illogical links.


CLAT-2019 Question Paper pattern for PG admissions

There will be 150 questions of one mark each, with a total of 150 marks for the 2-hour paper. Negative marking will be applied for incorrect answers.

The subjects include-
  1. Constitutional Law (50 Marks).
  2. Jurisprudence (50 Marks).
  3. Other Law Subjects such as Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, IPR etc. (50 Marks).




Important dates

  1. Online application begins: 10th January 2019.
  2. Last date to submit the online application: 31st March 2019.
  3. Date of CLAT-2019 (offline mode): 12th May 2019 (Sunday), 3p.m. to 5p.m.


How to apply

Register and apply online at CLAT Consortium website after first reading all the instructions and guidelines. (Note: The website will be open when online registrations begin on 12th January 2019.)

Once you register with a personal e-mail ID and mobile number, you will get a provisional Registration Number and password which is automatically generated by the system. An email and SMS indicating the Provisional Registration number and Password will be sent to you. You have to use these to log in to fill up the online application for CLAT-2019. It is important that you enter your name as well as the names of your parents correctly in the application, with no spelling mistakes, exactly as it appears in the Certificates/Mark sheets/Identity proof. The application fee can be paid online or by bank challan which is generated online.

The scanned copies of the following documents will be required to be uploaded during the online application process:
  1. A passport size recent photo where you are facing the camera.
  2. Your signature.
  3. The certificate in PDF format issued by the competent authority to support the claim of Specially Abled Persons (SAP) if this is applicable.


Note: The original certificates/documents issued by the competent authority as specified in the brochure must be submitted at the time of admission to the allotted Law University as per the instructions specified by it. Once the Admit Card is available at the official website, you must take a print-out of it and bring it with you to the exam centre.
