How to get admissions for engineering courses in Karnataka through COMEDK UGET-2019

Do you want to apply for online admissions to an engineering course in a Karnataka college or university in 2019? To do so, you first need to appear for the common entrance exam in May. This article provides complete information of COMEDK UGET-2019 entrance exam, the scores of which will determine your eligibility for admission to recognized engineering institutes in Karnataka.


The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) has announced the schedule for the online entrance exam for gaining admission to engineering colleges in the State of Karnataka. It should be noted that students from other States can also appear for the COMEDK UGET-2019 exam if they wish to pursue an undergraduate engineering course in Karnataka. There will be centralized counseling as well, subsequent to the single common entrance exam. Note that the scores obtained through COMEDK UGET-2019 will be valid only for admissions during the academic year 2019-2020.

Additionally, Uni-GAUGE-Engineering Entrance Exam (known as Uni-GUAGE-E) is combined with COMEDK exam. That is, With Uni-GAUGE-E Entrance Exam score, you can apply for admissions in all Uni-GAUGE-E Member Institutions.

Eligibility requirements

For UG B.E. / B.Tech. courses

You must pass second Pre-University Course (PUC) or 10+2 Higher Secondary or an equivalent exam which is recognized by the State Govt./Central Govt. Additionally, in the final two years of academics, you should have taken up Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with English as a compulsory subject.

If you are a general merit candidate, then you should have passed with a minimum aggregate of 45% (40% for SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka State) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. You should also have passed these subjects individually. Note that Physics and Maths are mandatory subjects, along with Chemistry or Biotechnology or Biology or Computer or Electronics as one of the optional subjects. However, changes, if any, in the eligibility criteria by AICTE will be adopted.

Important note: Those who have a Diploma are ineligible to appear for the COMEDK entrance test since lateral entry admissions do not exist. However, Diploma students looking for admission to any of the engineering streams are eligible to appear for Uni-GUAGE-E. At the time of counseling, you will be required to submit the original marks' card of the exam as proof of your eligibility, that is, of the marks scored as indicated by the original marks' card.

For UG Architecture courses

Those seeking admission only in an architecture course do not need to fill up the online application form for the engineering entrance exam. They only need to submit a separate application form for counseling as per details which would be available at the COMEDK website.

You must pass second Pre-University Course (PUC) or 10+2 Higher Secondary with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and also 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2 level examination. Additionally, you must have qualified a recognized aptitude test in Architecture (NATA or equivalent) in 2019.

Application fee

The payment of the fee should be done in online mode only, via Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card. Please check the convenience charges before payment. The fee is as follows –
  1. For COMEDK only: Rs 1500 + Convenience charge/fee as applicable for online transaction.

  2. For Uni-GUAGE only: Rs. 1600 + Convenience charge/fee as applicable for online transaction.

  3. For both COMEDK and Uni-GUAGE combined: Rs 2400 + Convenience charge/fee as applicable.

How to apply

Before registration, ensure that you have a valid E-mail ID and mobile number. The name and date of birth which you enter in the online application should be exactly as it appears in your 10th/SSLC marks card. Scan and keep ready for uploading a Unique ID Proof, namely one of these: (i) Voter ID (ii) Passport (iii) Driving License (iv) Aadhar Card / E-Aadhar (v) PAN card. You will need to bring this same ID proof in original at the time of the entrance exam as well as for the admission process.

You will also require for uploading: (i) Your photograph (ii) Your signature (iii) The signature of your parent/guardian. Refer to the official brochure for instructions about the format required for all the documents to be uploaded.

Steps for registration

  1. Apply online at the official COMEDK 2019 engineering entrance exam website . Fill in the basic details in the registration form, which will generate an OTP at your mobile number. This OTP is to be entered to validate your registration. (Those who have already registered can enter their User ID and password).

  2. Next, click on the register button and complete the registration. Once you do so, you will receive an SMS and an email with User ID/Application number and a password. Now you need to log out and log in again using the User ID and the password.

  3. Next, click on 'Go to application' and select the exam which you are applying for. Enter your personal details and fill in the category details as well.

  4. Next, fill in your academic details and upload the requisite documents in the prescribed format and size as mentioned in the information brochure. Select your preference of the city for the entrance exam and select the payment details.

  5. Verify all details via the "Preview" Page and then only click on the "Submit " button to complete the payment.

  6. Final step: Check that the application status is successful by logging in again and take a printout of the application for your reference.

COMEDK UGET-2019 Test format

The COMEDK entrance test is based on the existing syllabus of 10 + 2/12th STD/1st and 2nd PUC. The test is available only in English medium. It is of three hours' duration, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a total of 180 multiple choice questions. There are 60 questions each for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The total score is 180, with every correct answer getting 1 mark. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

To prepare for the exam, you can take the six different mock tests online, which will be available at the official website as scheduled.

  1. Registration and online application begins: 16th January 2019.

  2. Mock test available online: 5th February 2019.

  3. Last date for online payments and submission of application online: 19th April 2019.

  4. Editing of selected fields in the application form allowed from 20th to 22nd April 2019.

  5. Test Admission Ticket (TAT) available at website from: 3rd May 2019.

  6. Last date to download the Online Test Admission Ticket: 11th May 2019.

  7. COMEDK UGET & Uni-GAUGE E 2019 Engineering Entrance Exam 2010: 12th May 2019.

  8. Provisional Answer Keys will be published on: 16th May 2019.

  9. Submission of objections/challenge the answer keys: 16th May to 20th May 2019.

  10. Final Answer keys will be published on: 24th May 2019.

  11. Test Score cards will be available online on: 27th May 2019.
