National Brain Research Centre invites applications for M.Sc Neuroscience and Ph.D. programs 2019

National Brain Research Center is India's specialized deemed to be University that is fully dedicated to research the areas of Neuroscience and brain function. This autonomous institute of Biotechnology Department, India Government is located in the foothills of Aravalli range in Manesar, Haryana. If curious about the exact location, we can say that this campus is located very close to NSG campus on NH8. For the year 2019, NBRC popularly known as National Brain Research Centre invites applications from eligible candidates for the M.Sc(Neuroscience) and Ph.D programs. If you are interested to pursue a career in brain research, then you must definitely do a course at NBRC. If you are eligible for both M.Sc. (Neuroscience) and Ph.D. programs in NBRC, then you can choose to apply for both the programs either by filling a separate online application form or sending the application forms by post/courier. If you prefer online application form, make sure to use different email ID. In addition, you need to pay separate fees for each program. Let's check the details of these courses one by one.

M.Sc Neuroscience 2019 course at NBRC

This is a 2-year program where all the students will be provided a fellowship of Rs 12,000 per month + HRA (in lieu of hostel accommodation).


Candidates with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Physics/Life Science/ Computer applications/ Chemistry/ Veterinary Science/ Mathematics / Statistics / Pharmacy/ Engineering/ Psychology/ Technology / Medicine from a recognized Institute / University are eligible to apply for this course. Those appearing for the final qualifying examination are also eligible to apply. Candidates must have scored at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade or grade point average from 10th examination onward. For SC/ST/PH candidates, only 50% marks are required. One important point is that here only Indian nationals are eligible for this programs. As per the rules of India Government/UGC, there will be reservations/concessions for SC / ST / PH candidates.

How to get admission

If you are interested to get admission for M.Sc Neuroscience 2019 program at NBRC, then you must definitely qualify the JGEEBILS that was held on December 2018. Based on the performance in this JGEEBILS exam, the eligible candidates will be shortlisted for a two-tier interview.

How to apply?

Usually NBRC prefers online applications. But if you do not have any internet access, then you can apply offline. If you wish to apply by offline mode, then you need to obtain an application form from NBRC. For that, you need to, send a self-addressed A-4 size envelope to the following address

Note: Make sure to indicate the program you wish to apply at the top of the envelope. if applying for the Ph.D. program, then you need to mention the channel through which you are applying.

Important dates

  • The last date of receipt of requests for hard copy of the application form at NBRC is 1st March 2019
  • Last date for filling (Online/Offline) application form at NBRC is 31st March 2019
  • The two-tier interviews for the M.Sc. and Ph.D programs at NBRC are scheduled from 27th May 2019 to 31st May 2019.

Ph.D. Neuroscience program 2019 at NBRC

In this program, all admitted candidates will receive a Junior Research Fellowship of Rs 25,000 per month + HRA (in lieu of hostel accommodation) for the first two years. After that, the candidates will be eligible for a Senior Research Fellowship of Rs 28,000 per month + HRA (in lieu of hostel accommodation).


Candidates who have qualified any of the below mentioned exams will be eligible for Ph.D course
  • Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences 2018 (JGEEBILS 2018).
  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2018/GATE-2019) in Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Electrical Engineering / Electronics and Communications Engineering / Computer Science and Information Technology / Instrumentation Engineering
  • Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) (2019) (for Physics)
  • CSIR / UGC / DBT / ICMR examination for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Biology / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics. Validity of the fellowship should be such that it can be activated on 31st August, 2019 or later
  • UGC-NET Lectureship qualified on/after Dec 2016

Based on this exam performance, candidates will be shortlisted for interviews that will be held at NBRC.

Application fees

Below mentioned is the application fees for candidates applying for Ph.D and M.Sc Neuroscience program 2019.
  • General: Rs 300(Fees for online applicants)
  • General: Rs 350(Fees for offline applicants
  • SC/ST/PH: Rs 150(Fees for online applicants)
  • SC/ST/PH: Rs 200(Fees for offline applicants)

How to make the payment?

You can pay the application fees either by online or offline.

If you apply online: The online applicants should submit the application fee through 'SB Collect' of State Bank of India, the web link for which will be available in the last step of the online application process.

If you apply offline (by post/courier): This can be done by post/courier. The application fee should be submitted by a Demand Draft drawn in favor of Director, National Brain Research Centre payable at Gurgaon or Manesar. Please write your name and program applied for on the back of the Demand Draft. Also, mention your Reference Code / Registration No. / Roll No. for the qualifying JGEEBILS / JEST / GATE / UGC-NET LS or the JRF (CSIR / UGC / DBT / ICMR) examination. GATE and JRF / LS candidates should also mention the year of the examination on the back of the demand draft.

Where to send the duly filled application form?

You have to send the completed application along with the demand draft to the Registrar, National Brain Research Centre, Manesar-122052, Gurgaon, Haryana, India

Important: No application fee will be applicable for such JRF / LS candidates who have applied/are applying through JGEEBILS / JEST / GATE channels. However, they need to fill in a separate application form to be considered in both the channels.

How to reach

You can reach NBRC either by car, bus, train or flight.
  • By flight: Indira Gandhi International Airport at New Delhi is the nearest airport from NBRC. It is located at a distance of only 35 km. From the airport, you can hire a taxi to reach the campus

  • By train: You can reach NBRC from Delhi/New Delhi railway station or Gurgaon Railway Station. IFFCO Chowk metro station is the nearest metro station to NBRC. Both Interstate, as well as city buses/ auto-rickshaws, are easily available from this metro station to the campus. On the other hand, If you are traveling from Gurgaon Railway Station, first you need to take an auto to the Gurgaon Bus stand, where. Interstate, as well as City Bus Services, which drop you at the NSG campus, are available. NBRC is located very close to NSG campus

  • By bus: Interstate bus services are available from various bus terminals in Delhi/New Delhi/Gurgaon and they stop at the NSG Campus. We can reach the NBRC campus easily as it is located very near to NSG campus

  • By car: From Manesar, you can travel in a car via NH-48 and it will take only about 8 minutes to cover that 3 km. If you are traveling from Gurgaon, follow NH 48 to reach NBRC campus. This journey will take 35-40 minutes to cover that 25 km
