Established in 1966, the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) is an autonomous body under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. IIP is a founder member of Asian
Packaging Federation (APF) and the World Packaging Organisation (WPO). It has gained a good reputation for its intensive training and educational programs in the field of packaging. It also provides superb facilities for testing and evaluation of packaging materials, basic and applied research facilities, etc. The two years full-time Post-Graduate Diploma in Packaging first started in 1985 in Mumbai, is a much sought after course. IIP now has centres in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad. Branches are proposed to be set up at Guwahati, Bangalore and Kakinada.About PG Diploma in Packaging at IIP
The aim of the two years' course is to give students a thorough knowledge of, and training in, all aspects of packaging. It thus covers the materials used, particulars of packing technology, the manufacturing process of machinery, its association with sectors like food, agriculture, and other industries, etc. Successful candidates of the course can then launch their careers as self-employed professionals or seek employment in the Government or private sector, including in multinational companies. Food, Pharma, and Polymer are some of the sectors with job prospects for students of this course.
As part of the curriculum, students devote 70% to academic sessions, This includes theoretical aspects and reference work in the library. 30% of the curriculum is solely for practical sessions. The latter incorporates not just working in the campus labs of IIP but also includes hands-on industrial training in the fourth semester for a duration of 5 months and project work. Industrial visits are scheduled in Semester I and II. Students are encouraged to take up research and development activities as well. At the end of Semester IV, campus placement is arranged for the students. For this, interviews are scheduled with various interested national/international companies at IIP Mumbai and at regional Centres.

Course Fees
Note: All fees must be paid within the time frame given for each semester by DD (in favour of Indian Institute of Packaging). The 2nd, 3rd and 4th Semester fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.Eligibility requirements
(i) You should be a fresh Graduate in Engineering/Technology or Science (12th + 3 years degree - entire 5 years in science only) with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. Microbiology or Biochemistry as the main subject.
Or
(ii) Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology or Biochemistry as the second subject in the three-year degree course
Or
(iii) Agriculture / Food Science/ Polymer Science degree of an AICTE/recognized University with a minimum second class.
Candidates who have studied abroad and are having an equivalent overseas qualification can also apply. However, they are required to have had a consistently high academic record and possess sound general knowledge.
Further, if you are appearing in the final year of the qualifying exam, then, too, you can apply. However, you must submit your results/ provisional results (as given by the University) latest on the day of the personal interview and selection, otherwise, you will be ineligible for admission to the course.

You can obtain the application form, syllabus and the prospectus from one of IIP's regional centers on payment of Rs.500/- in cash or by Demand Draft in favor of "Indian Institute of Packaging" payable at the respective centres of IIP.
You can also submit the application form online at the official website of IIP, after going through the instructions provided. Once you have submitted it online, you need to take a printout and attach all the relevant duly attested certificates along with the Demand Draft (if not paid online) and submit in person at T & E Division, HO Mumbai or one of the regional centres. You can also mail it by Registered Post or Speed Post or Courier to "The Course Coordinator T & E Division E-2, MIDC Area, Andheri (East) Mumbai-400 093". You must write "PGDPCET-2019, ONLINE Application" on top of the envelope. Also, write your name and registration ID number on the backside of the demand draft.
Note: Compulsory documents to be uploaded during the online procedure are (i) Photograph, (ii) Marks statement from Class X to Degree Certificate, (iii) Caste certificate (this is for reserved category applicants).Selection process
There are two steps to get selected for admission to the course. The first is a written exam and the second is an interview. About the Written Exam and Interview
The IIP 2019 Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging Common Entrance Test (PGDP-CET) will have multiple choice questions. The syllabus for the test is based on the graduate level and the subjects include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Engineering. Those who successfully clear the written exam will be called for a personal interview. Venues of the interview are Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Hyderabad centers of the IIP. Final Selection
