Our mouth is an organ where continuous eating activity happens during the meals every day and it is natural that the teeth are doing a lot of work for grinding the food. Due to the continuous use there is a lot of wear and tear in the teeth and the gums and it is possible that the gums may get infected with the food particles remaining in the crevices for a longer time and that starts weakening the teeth. So, it is imperative that we should get them checked routinely and take preventive measures before anything serious emerges out.

In fact, those people who regularly clean their teeth and floss them time to time may not require to go to the dentist so frequently. Some people have very good habits of keeping their teeth clean by cleaning the mouth every time they eat even a small portion of snacks or food. This is really a very good habit and protects them from the tooth or gum infection.

Another thing is brushing the tooth not only regularly but also properly. I remember, once due to plaque formation on my teeth and gums slightly bleeding, I had to go to a dentist. He was an experienced doctor and after the checkup, he asked me how many times in a day I brush my teeth and what is the way in which I use the brush. He wanted me to show to him how I brushed. Happily, I gave him the opportunity to see it while I brushed my teeth standing near the washbasin in his clinic. After observing me for some time he was very sorry to tell me that I was doing it in the most defective manner which was going to affect the gums adversely.

I was a bit offended on his straightforwardness but being a patient I had no other option. He explained to me the details in which he told the scientific way of brushing the teeth. The direction of toothbrush movement, where to pressurise, where to release and the duration and all that. It was too much for me but thinking patiently I found that what he told was perfectly making sense.

After that teaching lesson, he did some procedures on my gums and removed the plaque with drilling tools and cured me after 2-3 sittings within 15 days time.

This story is about 16 years old and following his instructions, I am having no problem in my teeth presently.
