About the Ph.D. program

Duration

The Ph.D. program will be of a minimum of three years and a maximum of six years from the date of admission, including course work. The minimum period can be two years from the date of admission for those who have pursued a Ph.D. after Master's Degree by research and have registered for the Ph.D. program in the same subject.



Eligibility requirements

Those seeking admission to the Ph.D. program in Teacher Education should have a Master's Degree or an equivalent professional degree with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (relaxation of 5% for reserved category candidates/differently-abled candidates). For those who have studied abroad, an equivalent degree from a foreign institution is also acceptable, provided it is accredited by an authorized accreditation agency of educational institutions in the home country.

Other acceptable qualifications are-
Those who have completed the course work of an M.Phil. program at this institute with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale and successfully completed the M.Phil. degree can pursue research work leading to a Ph.D. in the same institution in an integrated program.

Those who have submitted their M.Phil. Dissertation at this institute and it has been evaluated, but have the viva voce pending, can get admission to the Ph.D. program.

Those who have a Degree which is equivalent to M.Phil. of an Indian institution, or from a foreign institute which is accredited by an authorized accreditation agency of educational institutions in the home country, can also apply.

Those having a Ph.D. in a given subject from the University of Mumbai or any other recognized university as per UGC guidelines and wish to pursue a Ph.D. in the same subject or another subject.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted to the institute within 10 days of the admission notification, i.e. 24th February 2019. The details of the admission procedure and the prescribed application format can be obtained from the official website of St. Xavier's Institute of Education. Candidates must submit the requisite self-attested documents with the completed application form. Shortlisted candidates may be called for an interview.
