Indian Statistical Institute – a pioneer in math and statistics Indian Statistical Institute, popularly known as ISI is an institute of higher learning in the field of statistics and related disciplines. It was founded in the city of Kolkata in the year 1931 by Professor PC Mahalanobis. It was in the year 1959 that by an act of the Parliament ISI was accorded with the status of Institute of National Importance. Other than its headquarters in Kolkata, the institute has centres in Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Giridih and the city of Tezpur in Assam. Most of the courses on offer are to be undertaken at its centers in Kolkata, Delhi and Bengaluru and a few in the rest of the cities. The institute primarily focuses on research in the field of statistics and it's allied fields.
Degree and diploma programs on offer The institute, through its admission notice has recently invited applications from eligible candidates for the following undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The above two courses are of 3-year duration.
All the above master degree programs are of 2-year duration.

Other than the above undergraduate and postgraduate courses, eligible candidates may apply for fellowships in a variety of subjects such as Statistics, Math, Quantitative Economics, Quality, Reliability & Operations Research, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Math, Library & Information Sciences, Biological Science and Geology. From the prospectus, you will also get to know the duration of the courses, number of seats, the eligibility criteria, scope and general requirement for each one of the programs. It also lets you know the details about the fellowship programs and the stipend one gets for the various courses.
Application fees For all programs
How to apply For applying for the admission test, candidates have to first register themselves at the official website of ISI. They need to then login and fill up the necessary information into the application form. Application for the above courses is to be done online only. They are to be complete and proper in all respect. Will be rejected, if found otherwise. After submitting the application, the candidate will be directed to the payment portal, where the necessary fees can be paid online. While submitting the application form the candidate will need to be in possession of a digital photograph of self and a scanned copy of his or her signature. The admit card is to be downloaded from the site and printed as and when it is made available at the site. The candidate should also have a valid email account, as all correspondence with the candidate by the admission committee will be done through email.
Selection procedure Admission to the different programs in ISI is through written tests and interviews. Candidates qualifying the written tests are called for interview. The final admission to the programs is based on their performances in the written tests as well as the interview. The written test is conducted in two sessions. The eligibility for each of the individual courses and the selection procedure for each one of them are given in great detail in the prospectus.
Exemption from written test Following category of applicants are exempted from appearing for the written tests.
The application procedure for the above-exempted category of candidates is the same as for others. They will be, however, directly asked to come for the interview and based on their performance there, will be recommended for admission.
Admission test As mentioned above, the written tests for admission to the different programs in Indian Statistical Institute will be held on 12 May 2019. The tests will be held across the length and breadth of India at various centres as given in this list. Overseas students have to select a centre anywhere in India to sit for the test.
To help the candidates prepare for the admission test, the institute provides for a number of sample questions based on previous year's papers. The sample questions and the syllabus can be accessed at the ISI Kolkata website itself. The tests have both objective as well as descriptive component. The test is held in two sessions. The forenoon session is from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, whereas the afternoon session is from 02:00 pm to 04:00 pm. The questions in the forenoon session is of multiple choice types and the afternoon session has descriptive questions. The question papers are mostly based on 10+2 level of mathematics.
