The Wildlife Institute of India also known as WII is an autonomous institution of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, India government. The institute was established in the year 1982. Located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, the institute provides several training programs, academic courses as well as advisory in wildlife research and management to inspiring students. Now WII has invited applications from eligible candidates for the 2 courses namely M.Sc in Wildlife Science and Master's Degree Course in Heritage Conservation and Management for the academic year 2019-21. M.Sc. Course in Wildlife Science at WII

This 2 year(4 semester) course affiliated with Saurashtra University, Rajkot(Gujarat) is widely acclaimed both nationally and internationally . The main aim of this course is to impart some theoretical knowledge on concepts, principles, approaches, analytical skills and field techniques in Wildlife Science. Indian, as well as foreign nationals who have high caliber, motivation and passion for wildlife and conservation, are selected for this residential course every alternate year. The details regarding the eligibility for both Indian and foreign nationals are mentioned below.

Number of seats

About 20 meritorious students will be admitted to this course, which includes 15 Indian and 5 foreign nationals. This 15 Indian seats will be as follows: General candidates- 08, SC candidates - 02, ST candidate - 01 and OBC candidates– 04. If foreign candidates are not selected, these seats will be offered to Indian candidates as per the reservation policy of Government of India.

  • Indian Nationals : INR 5,32,800
  • SAARC Nationals : US$13,200
  • Other Nationals : US$14,400

Eligibility

  • A candidate with Bachelor's degree in Science, Veterinary Science, Medical Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Forestry, Social Science and Computer Science or degrees recognized as equivalent are eligible to apply. But applicants from the fields of Engineering, Computer Science , Social Science etc. should have Biology as one of their subjects in Higher Secondary Education Board or other equivalent board
  • A minimum of 15 years of formal educations required. It can be either 10+2+3 or 11+2+2.
  • Candidates who have completed the above mentioned graduation degrees with a pass certificate OR who have appeared OR will be appearing at the final graduation degree examination and whose result is still awaited can also apply. But those candidates need to provide their graduation pass certificate prior to course registration.

Age limit

Candidates with no more than 25 years as on 1 July 2019 are eligible to apply for this program. There will be a relaxation of 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates. In the case of foreign candidates, the upper age limit is 28 years as of 1 July 2019 while for in-service candidates, working in forest and wildlife departments the age limit as of 1 July 2019 is 35 years.

Selection process

There will be a separate section process for Indian candidates and Foreign nationals. Let us check them one by one.

Indian candidates: They are required to appear for a 2 hour online National Eligibility Test. The date is mentioned below. This exam will be conducted at 14 centers like Jammu, Aizawl, Lucknow, Ranchi, Dehradun, Guwahati, Trivandrum, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bhopal and Bangalore. Those who qualify this exam will be called for a personality and aptitude test(PAT) and interview that will be held at Dehradun. The final selection of candidates will be made on the basis of combined merit of 70% marks in NET and 30% marks in PAT. Suppose if you are the selected Indian national, then you must confirm the acceptance of selection offer by 10 June 2019 by email.

Foreign nationals: They need to attend an interview through Skype. The dates for this interview are mentioned below. So the final selection will be based on 50% marks in the Graduation degree and 50% marks obtained in interview based on the web conferencing.

Master's degree in Heritage Conservation and Management

Master's degree in Heritage Conservation and Management is a 2-year residential course introduced by UNESCO C2C. The course is having an affiliation with the Saurashtra University, Rajkot, Gujarat. There will be a maximum intake of 10 candidates for this course.

Eligibility

A minimum of 15 years of formal education is required for applying to this course. Candidates who have a bachelor degree from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course. Those who have appeared OR will be appearing at the final exam and whose result is still awaited are eligible to apply for this course provided they must submit their pass certificate prior to the course registration. If you have a degree from outside India, please check the information provided for M.Sc Wildlife Science course as they are same.

Is there any minimum qualifying marks to consider eligible?

For general category and OBC candidates(both Indian and foreign nationals) a 50% in aggregate with a bachelor degree is required but in the case of SC/ST candidates, only 45 % in aggregate is required.

Age limit

Same as the one mentioned for M.Sc Wildlife Science.

Foreign nationals who don't have English as their native language

They should have a minimum TOEFL score of 213 (which is computer based), 550 (paper-based), or 79 (internet based), or a minimum of 6.0 IELTS score. Make sure that your score reports of TOEFL or IELTS score should not be before 01.01.2017.

This is the same as mentioned for M.Sc Wildlife Science.
