Kashmiri cuisine is a great deal to relish during your visit. It offers a lip-smacking taste with uncanny spices of the valley. Most relished and favoured culinary in Kashmir during winters are Kahwa tea with a strand of saffron, Dum aloo, Pulav and Harissa made from goat meat or mutton served with naan-bread; all this is the most enjoyed delicacy during winters in Kashmir. Keeping warm with a Firepot and Pheran

During the times of winter snow, Kashmir has a traditional firepot or Kanger to keep cosy and warm in the freezing cold. Kashmiris use this under a traditional long cloak called Pheran. Firepot or Kanger is made of an earthen pot woven around by an encasement of wicker. With charcoal and embers in the pot that lasts for a day, kanger provides warmth and protects people from bone-chilling temperatures. The temperature in Kashmir always dips below sub-zero and it is bone chilling during the snow in winters.

Apart from the firepot or kanger, we have a traditional woollen or tweed attire known as Pheran as protection from the cold in winters. This traditional outfit is worn by both males and female in snowy season in Kashmir. People carry the firepot under the Pheran and move around in the market to shop or keep walking along streets and indulge in gossips with a kanger under this traditional attire.
