National Hospitality Teachers Eligibility Test May 2019 for recruitment of Hotel Management teachers

National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India has announced the for the National Hospitality Teachers Eligibility Test 2019 (NHTET-2019) to be held in May. It is mandatory to be successful in this test for submitting an application to take up a faculty post as Assistant Lecturers (AL) and Teaching Associates (TA) in the 68 Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) and Food Craft Institutes (FCIs) which function under the aegis of NCHMCT. The list of institutes is provided in the information brochure at the official website. All these posts are filled up through direct recruitment. However, one should note that you are not entitled for a job on qualifying the NHTET-2019 exam, but only eligible to apply. Each institute will have its own separate selection process as per its norms to recruit suitable candidates.

Eligibility requirements

Only citizens of India can apply for NHTET-2019. Other eligibility requirements are mentioned below.

Age criteria

The birth date should be on or after the following dates:
  • For General category candidates: 30th September 1989.

  • For OBC category candidates: 30th September1986.

  • For SC, ST & PD category candidates: 30th September 1984.

Note: On successfully passing the NHTET-2019, you will be allowed to apply against any vacancy of AL and TA. You are allowed to appear as many as times as you want up to 30 years of age. An OBC (non-creamy layer) category candidate can apply up to 33 years of age and SC/ST/PD category candidates can apply up to 35 years of age.

Educational Qualification and Experience criteria

You must have a full-time Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Administration/Hotel Management after 10+2 from a recognized university with at least 60% marks. Additionally, you should have a minimum of two years of industry experience after obtaining the Degree (any industrial training which is part of the course will not be considered as experience).
You must have a full time Master's Degree in Hospitality Administration/Hotel Management after having completed a Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Administration/Hotel Management from a recognized university with at least 60% marks either in the Bachelor or Master's Degree qualifying exam.

Note: If you are appearing in the final semester/final year exam of the Master's Degree and have passed all the subjects of the previous year/semester, then also you can apply for NHTET-2019.

Application fees

The fee for the application form is as follows:
  1. General, OBC category male candidates: Rs.800/-.

  2. SC/ST/PD category candidates: Rs.400/-.

  3. All female candidates: Rs.400/-.

NHTET-2019 test format

There are three papers with objective type questions, conducted in two sessions, with two papers in the first session and one paper in the second session. The first session is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with 50 questions for Paper I and 50 questions for Paper II. Each paper is of 100 marks, with 2 marks for each correct answer and half negative mark for a wrong answer or for a double attempt but no negative marking for questions which are not attempted. The second session of Paper III is from 11.30a.m. to 1.30p.m. with 100 questions. This paper is of 200 marks, with 2 marks for each correct answer and zero marks for the questions not attempted.

The questions in Paper I will be aiming to test your teaching and research aptitude and accordingly will be based on comprehension, reasoning, general knowledge, etc. The questions in Paper II will be related to general management and food science, with hotel accounts included as well for hospitality-related teaching posts. The questions in Paper III will be centered on Food Production, Food & Beverage Service and Management, Accommodation Operation Management and House Keeping Management.

Important note: You must go to the exam center with a print out of the Admit Card and the original of the ID card which you had scanned and uploaded while filling up the online application form. Without these, you will not be allowed to appear for the entrance test.

The test centers are at Noida, Mumbai, Jaipur, Gandhinagar, Chennai, Bhopal, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar, Gurdaspur, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Hajipur (near Patna), and Thiruvananthapuram.

You must apply online only at the Tourism & Hospitality Institute Management System website . The information brochure which contains details about the course, exam format, etc is available for download at the website.

Important note: You will be required to purchase a Demand Draft (DD) from any approved Bank for the requisite amount of the application fee (see fee amount mentioned in this article earlier) before filling up the online application form because you will need to enter the DD number in the online form.

Documents required to be uploaded at the time of online application are-
  1. A scanned copy of a passport size photograph.

  2. A scanned copy of any one valid ID card, namely Aadhar Card or PAN Card or Voter ID or Driving Licence or Passport.

Take a print out of the online application on successful submission. Send the printed application along with the requisite fee through a Demand Draft to reach NHMCT by 6th May 2019, 5p.m. at this address:

Important dates

  • Online application begins: 17th March 2019 to 3rd May 2019, 24:00hrs.

  • Last date for receipt of confirmation sheet along with fee and other documents: 6th May 2019.

  • Admit card can be downloaded from the official website: 13th to 18th May 2019.

  • Date of NHTET-2019 in 16 cities in India: 18th May 2019.

  • Expert committee meeting on the challenged answer and uploading of final Answer Key: on or before 27th May 2019.

  • Results of NHTET-2019: by 31st May 2019.
