Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University Ph.D. admission notification 2019

The Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University is India's first state University which is exclusively established for Physical Education and Sports. It is instituted by the Government of Tamil Nadu and is approved by NAAC with B++ grade. The University has 5 departments and it provides various UG, PG and Ph.D. degree programmes in physical education and allied courses. The Ph.D admissions for March 2019 are open at the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University. Eligible candidates can follow the admission guidelines mentioned in this article and apply for the Ph.D. programmes offered in the University departments and Research centers of the University.

Eligibility criteria

  1. Ph.D in Physical Education: Candidate must hold a degree in M.P.Ed/M.P.E/ M.P.E.S
  2. Ph.D in Yoga: Admission into Ph.D in Yoga requires a degree in M.Sc(Yoga)/M.A(Yoga)/ Yoga related course
  3. Ph.D in Sports Management: An M.B.A in Sports Management is required for admission into this course
  4. Ph.D in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition: Candidate must hold a degree in M.Sc( Exercise Physiology and Nutrition)
  5. Ph.D in Sports Biomechanics and Kinesiology: A minimum qualification required for admission into this course is M.Sc (Sports Biomechanics and Kinesiology)
  6. Ph.D in Sports Psychology : Candidate must hold a degree in M.Sc(Sports Psychology and Sociology)
  7. Ph.D in Sports Coaching: Candidate must have a degree in M.Sc(Sports Coaching)/M.S.(Sports Coaching)
  8. Ph.D in Sports Technology: M.Tech(Sports Technology) is the minimum qualifying degree required for admission into this course
  9. Ph.D in Sports Sociology: Candidate must hold a degree in M.Sc(Sports Psychology and Sociology)


How to apply

Candidates who wish to apply for the Ph.D programmes offered by the university can download the application from the official website of the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University.

The application form fee of Rs.750/- must be paid in the form of Demand Draft taken in favor of "The Registrar, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, Chennai-600127"

The duly filled application form along with the demand draft and the checklist mentioned in the application form must be submitted in the University.

Candidates who wish to do research in the approved research centers must send the filled in applications to the Principals of the Approved Research Centers as per the University Notification.

Note: Application Fees will not be refunded under any circumstances. Also, the application form once submitted cannot be changed or rectified.

Checklist

Along with the duly filled application form, candidates must submit the attested photocopies of the below-mentioned documents. Failure in the submission of the documents along with the application form will lead to the rejection of the Ph.D. application.

  • Birth Certificate/S.S.L.C Certificate(For age proof)
  • Community Certficate
  • X standard certificate, HSC, UG, PG, M.Phil Mark statements and Convocation Certificates
  • If the applicant is a part-time candidate, then experience/service certificate and No objection certificate from the head of the organization where the candidate is employed should be submitted. The certificate must hold the employee details such as date of appointment, whether a temporary/permanent employee, contract, etc.

Note: Send only the attested photocopies. The original certificates must be produced for verification at the time of interview. If the candidate is selected for admission into any of the Ph.D. programmes offered by the University, then the original PG mark sheet, Experience/Service certificate and No Objection Certificate must be submitted in Resource Section of the University.

Selection Process

The Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University conduct an entrance examination for the admissions into the Ph.D. programmes offered by the University.

The University admits the research scholars into the Ph.D. programmes based on their performance in the qualifying PG examination, entrance examination and interview.

Note: The scholars will be admitted for Ph.D. programmes based on their merit score and the roster system followed by the Tamil Nadu Government.

Candidates who have cleared NET/SLET are exempted to appear for the entrance exam. However, such candidates should score 50% marks in PG degree and personal interview.

Mentioned below is the marks allotted by the University for the admission process.
  • Entrance Test(Part I) : 50 Marks
  • Entrance Test(Part II) : 50 Marks
  • Interview : 25 Marks
  • PG Degree : 25 Marks
  • Total : 150 Marks


Note: Marks obtained in the P.G Degree should be converted to a maximum of 25. For
example, if a candidate has secured 1800 marks out of 2400 in P.G Degree level, his/her marks for the qualifying examination is [1800/ 2400] x 25 = 18.75.
