Central Institute of Fisheries, Nautical & Engineering Training (CIFNET), the erstwhile Central Institute of Fisheries Operatives (CIFO) was established at Kochi in Kerala in the year 1963. CIFNET with its headquarters located at Kochi and units at Chennai & Visakhapatnam are well-equipped facilities for providing training and other related activities of the Institute. For the academic year 2019-20, CIFNET is inviting applications for the courses like Bachelor Of Fishery Science(Nautical Science) and Vessel Navigator Course(VNC) / Marine Fitter Course(MFC). Bachelor Of Fishery Science(Nautical Science)

This is a 4-year degree programme ( 8 semesters) with integrated practical & onboard training on ocean-going fishing vessels. The course conducted at CIFNET, Koch is affiliated to CUSAT, Kochi and is approved by DG Shipping, Mumbai. The candidates will be selected based on their performance at the Common Entrance Test(CET) and academic merit.

Eligibility

Candidates with a 10 + 2 with minimum 50% marks in all subjects of PCB or PCM are eligible to apply for this program. But SC/ST candidates require only pass in 10 + 2 with PCB or PCM. Those appearing for 10+2 exams during March, 2019 are also eligible for this Bachelor Of Fishery Science(Nautical Science) program.

Age limit

Candidates with 17 - 20 years as on 1st October 2019 are eligible for this program. For lateral entry, the maximum age is 22.

Altogether there will be 40 seats and it will be distributed like
  • General – 31
  • NRI –1
  • Foreign National – 1
  • Lateral Entry System – 7

Vessel Navigator Course(VNC) / Marine Fitter Course(MFC)

This is a two years trade course ( 4 semesters) with practical training on board fishing vessel out at sea and these Courses introduced by DGET, New Delhi under Craftsmen Training Scheme of NCVT. The courses are conducted at CIFNET Kochi/Chennai/Visakhapatnam. Also, the candidates are eligible for the CDC. The candidates will be selected based on their performance at All India basis Common Entrance Test(CET). The selected candidates will be paid Rs.1500/- per month as stipend.

CET centers: Kochi, Chennai, Vizag, Kolkata, Patna, Port Blair, Bhubaneswar and Veraval.
CET date for Vessel Navigator Course(VNC) / Marine Fitter Course(MFC): 22/06/2019

Eligibility

Candidates with a pass in 10th Standard with 40% marks in Maths and Science separately are eligible for this program. Those who are appearing for 10th exams during March,
2019 are also eligible to apply here.

Age limit

Candidates with 15- 20 yrs as on 1st August 2019 can apply for this course. The upper age will be relaxable to SC/ST candidates by 5 years.

Number of seats

For Vessel Navigator Course(VNC) there will be 48 seats and for Marine Fitter Course(MFC) also there are 48 seats. It will be distributed like 16 seats each at Kochi, Chennai, Vizag.

  • SC/ST candidates: Rs 250/-

Application fees for Vessel Navigator Course(VNC) / Marine Fitter Course(MFC)

  • General candidates: Rs 300/-
  • SC/ST candidates: Rs 150/-

How to pay the application fees?

The application fees can be done by Demand Draft drawn in favour of Senior Administrative Officer, CIFNET payable at Ernakulam. But if you are downloading the application form, then you can pay the fees by using any of the 3 options.

Candidates can have the application form from the above-mentioned address by paying the respective fees(details are given above) along with a self-addressed stamped envelope(Rs. 20/-) or by cash from CIFNET Office, Kochi/Chennai/Visakhapatnam.
