2019 Admissions open to Kathak dance and Music courses at Kendra New Delhi
Want to pursue a career as a Kathak dancer or a musician accompanist to dance? Want to know the fees of Kathak dance training programs in India? Kathak Kendra, New Delhi has announced admissions 2019 for its foundation and Advance training courses of Kathak Dance as well as Music courses. Introduction
Kathak Kendra, New Delhi invites applications in the prescribed format from students keen to pursue Kathak dance and Music training courses at the institute. There are full-time courses and refresher courses in Kathak dance, and Diploma courses and Special courses in music. Eligible students who are enrolled in any of the courses are not permitted to work on a short time or long term basis outside the Kendra. For example, you cannot take up a stint as a choreographer or take up work as a musician. All activities will only be ones which are scheduled and led by the Guru of the course for which you are enrolled and which the Guru may consider useful for the training with the prior approval of the Institute's Director. Students should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility requirements before applying and have proficiency in reading and writing Hindi or English with overall good physical and mental health. For each course, a half-yearly exam is held in December and the annual final exam is scheduled in the first and second weeks of May.
Foreign nationals whose age is below 40 years and who have a minimum of three years of training in Kathak dance/music are also welcome to apply for any of the courses. They need to apply through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, which is located at Azad Bhavan, I.P. Estate, New Delhi-110002. Direct applications from foreign nationals will not be accepted.

Those who are enrolled for these courses cannot take up any other dance training in any form outside the Kendra.Advance courses
These are full-time courses which include daily dance classes as well as regular classes in allied subjects conducted between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except on the second Saturday). Seminars and workshops, as well as trips, are scheduled from time to time.Diploma (Hons.) Course - First year
This course is of three years' duration. It is desirable to have training or experience in Hindustani Vocal music, Tabla or Pakhawaj with experience or interest in any other creative discipline such as Literature, Theatre, Visual arts, etc.
Eligibility:Post Diploma Course - First year
This course is of two years' duration. Interest and/or experience in any other related discipline such as theatre, literature or visual arts is desirable.
Eligibility:Refresher course
The duration of this course is two terms, with six months in each term. Classes for the course are held on six days a week (except on the second Saturday) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 80% attendance is mandatory. The trainee is expected to participate in the production work of the Kendra, to watch classes, and to join practical classes.

Elementary Courses
Foundation Course
The duration of this course is 5 years. Those who wish to enroll in this course should preferably have some prior exposure to Kathak training. You should have an above average sense of rhythm and music and be able to convey it through facial expressions and body movement.
Eligibility: Diploma (Pass) Course - First Year
The duration of this course is three years. A keen interest in any art form, such as dance, theatre, visual arts, music, etc is desirable.

Classes for these courses are held on six days a week (except on the second Saturday) between 12 noon to 5 p.m.
One-year Certificate Course (Tabla/Pakhawaj)
This course is for students having basic talent with an aptitude for playing percussion instruments, with sensitivity to rhythms.

This course is of 5 years' duration.
Eligibility criteria:Special Course in Vocal Music - First year
This course of three years is ideal for those with a good grounding in vocal music. The classes are held on six days a week between 12 noon and 5 p.m., except on the second Saturday of each month.

The following exam fees must be deposited at the beginning of the session, in July.
Important note: Payment of fees in case will not be accepted. All payments are to be made through cheque payable to "Director, Kathak Kendra". An amount of Rs.500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only) will be charged for dishonored cheques.Freeships
Students who are awarded a Freeship for a course are exempt from paying the Tuition Fees. You are eligible to apply for the Freeship if your parents' or guardians' total monthly income is below or up to Rs.8,000/-. You will need to submit an income statement certified by an S.D.M. as supporting documentary proof of income. Note that if you fail to qualify in the half-yearly or annual exam, then you will no longer be eligible to avail the facility of Freeship. Further, stipends, freeships, and scholarships will be reviewed each year.Scholarships and Stipends
Scholarships and stipends are offered to the students in various courses, provided they fulfill the required attendance criteria and are not receiving any scholarship from another source (they can select, though, between the two).
Additionally, the hostel facility/rent subsidy for Boarding will be offered to outstation students of all the Advanced Courses. The details for this can be obtained at the time of admission.How to apply

Once all the applications are checked, the eligible candidates will be called for a pre-admission test as per the new admission schedule listed below. The results will be displayed on the notice board of the Kendra as well as at the official website. Those eligible based on the results will get admission the appropriate training course based on merit and availability of seats. Those selected for admission must complete all admission-related formalities by 18th July 2019 for advanced courses.
