How can an individual contribute towards tree plantation

We often think that we cannot do much about protecting the environment and planting trees in our individual capacities. But the secret lies in making the right efforts for the cause. We can do lots, in our own sweet small ways. All we need to do is to explore the channels and work on them.

What did you do on World Earth Day or on The World Environment Day?

I am sure many of you will say, "planted saplings". But did you continue the good work and do it on other days? And every year, along with the 'n' number of promises and commitments to protect and save Mother Nature and our Environment, we also pledge to plant trees. But with the days passing by, we tend to get busy in our daily chores and our commitments faint away for other more important personal and professional commitments.

However, the guilt remains deep within us. But, wait! There are ways when we can contribute towards the cause of trees plantation in our own small ways and contribute towards the repairs of the damages done by us to Mother Nature and the Environment.

How to contribute towards the cause of protecting and planting trees

Well, there could be ways only if we sit back and think of ways:
  1. Planting saplings
  2. By large, this is the easiest and most affordable way indeed. We have our own premises, neighborhood, by lanes of the colonies and many more places we could think of for the purpose. Well, we do need to ensure that our good work does not hamper the traffic and the mobility of the people.

  3. Greeting with plants
  4. Why do we have to welcome and greet with flowers? Why not with a potted sapling? Or a small flowering plant itself in a well-decorated pot? Though the idea is not new, it is still way behind and not caught up till now.

  5. Generating awareness
  6. We all can work towards the awareness of growing plants and of course for not cu8tting down the trees for their personal purposes. We really do not need a platform to speak about it. We can just talk among our friends and people who meet in our everyday life especially our maids and people who might use the trees for fuel and other such waste purposes.

  7. Being an alert citizen
  8. We can also inform the forest officials and police when we see the illegal cutting of trees instead of just being a spectator or walking away from the scene.

  9. Making it a part of the celebrations
  10. We can also make it a part of our celebrations when we celebrate occasions like wedding, anniversaries and birthdays. Our guests and well-wishers can also plant trees to show their concern for the Environment and of course as a gift for us. Now, this could be a memorable celebration.

  11. E-Tree certificates/ E-tree cards
  12. Tree certificates! Now that is remarkable. There are organizations that would plant trees for us. One may get associated with one such organization that would plant trees for us and give us the necessary certificates. And we really do not have to shed out lots for this. It can start with as less as Rs.85/- per tree. But see the outcome. We have a tree to our credit somewhere we might not have traveled so far. Further, we can also make this an opportunity to gift it to our friend on his D' Day. Sending an E-tree card could also make him feel good. One such organization that would give us the tree certificates is the 'Grow-trees' in Mumbai. You may search for other organizations as well.

  13. Become a tree ambassador
  14. We can also become a volunteer with some organization working for this cause. Designated as a 'Tree Ambassador' is a matter of pride. One may become a tree ambassador and get a tree planted at a place of his choice. Organizations like 'One Tree Planted' work all over the globe and one may be given a choice for planting the tree anywhere across the 5 continents of their stretch.

There could be many more ways on how we could contribute to the environment. We just have to explore and strike upon good and unique ideas.
