JoSSA has announced the JEE ranks, eligibility criteria, counselling schedule, past year cut offs and fee criteria, details of which are given in this article.

About JoSSA

The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), India has set up the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2019 to manage the admissions to academic programs offered by 107 institutes for the academic year 2019-20. This includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and 28 other-government funded technical institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admission to all the academic programs offered by these institutes will be made through the official website of JoSSA.

Elegibility criteria to participate In Joint Seat Allocation

Any candidate who wants to apply for admissions in IITs must have cleared the JEE Advanced 2019 and
a) must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks (65% aggregate for SC, ST and PwD) in the Class XII (or equivalent) board examination or
b) must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.

Any candidate who wants to apply for academic programs in IIITs, NITs and Other-GFTIs must have successfully given the JEE Mains 2019 and
a) must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks (65% aggregate for SC, ST and PwD) in the Class XII (or equivalent) board examination or
b) must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.

Admissions to IITs will be based on the rank lists of JEE Advanced 2019. Admissions to NIT+ system will be on the basis of All India Rank(AIR) released by NTA 2019.

Admission (Counselling) procedure

  1. Filling-in of choices: All the interested and eligible candidates must fill-in their choices of institutes and branches in decreasing order of their preference at the official website using the JEE (Main) 2019 application number and password before each round.
Candidates can fill-in as many choices of their interest as they want. Filling-in of choices on the online portal is free of cost.

  2. Locking of choices: Candidates should "lock" their choices before the deadline of each round (as given in the counselling schedule below). Once locked, the choices cannot be modified. If candidates do not lock their choices before the deadline, last saved choices will be locked automatically upon reaching the deadline. Candidates will not be allowed to edit their choice list after the deadline for choice filling.

  3. There will be two mock rounds before the declaration of results of the first counselling round to give an approximation to the candidate of which academic program and institution will be allocated to him/her in the further rounds and to help him learn about the counselling procedure.

  4. A candidate who is allocated a seat in any of the rounds has to download the provisional seat allocation letter from the official website. Candidates allotted a seat must pay the seat acceptance fee of Rs. 35,000 (Rs 15,000 for candidates with the category tag SC, ST, GEN-PwD, GENEWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD or ST-PwD) through SBI e-challan/SBI net banking/SBI debit cards and get the documents verified at any reporting center mentioned at the official website for provisional seat acceptance. The schedule of reporting is given below.

  5. Participation in subsequent rounds: A candidate is required to fill the option for 'freeze', 'slide' or 'float' the choice of the academic program during choice filling in the subsequent rounds.
Freeze mode means that the candidate is satisfied with the offered seat and does not wish to upgrade his seat and participate in further rounds. Slide means that the candidate has accepted the offered seat and wishes to upgrade it within the same institute if possible. Float means that the candidate has accepted the offered seat and wants to upgrade it to an academic program of better preference.

  6. Dual reporting for document verification: If in any subsequent round, a candidate's allotment from NIT+ system (NIT+ system includes NITs, IIITs and Other-GFTIs) changes to an IIT, the candidate has to report once again at an IIT reporting centre; similarly if a candidate's allotment changes from IIT to a NIT+ system, the candidate must report once again at any NIT+ reporting centre. If the candidate fails to do the above mentioned, his seat will be cancelled in both NIT+ system and IIT.

  7. Reporting at the admitting institute: At the conclusion of joint seat allocation and seat acceptance, i.e. from July 19-23, 2019, candidates will have to report at the admitting institute, complete all the admission formalities of the institute, pay the balance fee, get the admission confirmed and begin the academic session.

  8. Withdrawal of seat: A candidate, who has already accepted a seat allotted by JoSAA 2019, can withdraw the seat by reporting at a reporting center till July 16, 2019 –July 17, 2019. Candidates who have chosen to withdraw will not be considered for subsequent rounds of seat allotment. Seat acceptance fee will be refunded to these candidates after deducting Rs. 1500/-. The procedure for seat withdrawal can be found on the official website. The seat acceptance fee is returned after 2-3 months from the date of the end of counselling.

Important guidelines

  1. JoSSA will conduct seven rounds of counselling for admissions to academic programs offered by various academic institutions.

  2. JoSSA mainly conducts B.E. or B.Tech admissions, B.Arch admissions, Integrated courses admissions, and preparatory courses admissions to the top institutions of the country. If you want to know more about B.Arch courses and colleges and admission related information, you may visit our architecture course page.

  3. Candidates have to pay the seat acceptance fee only once. Thus, candidates who are allocated another seat in subsequent rounds do not have to pay the seat acceptance fee again.

  4. During the process of document verification at the time of reporting, if there is any mismatch between the details and documents uploaded on the JEE 2019 registration site and produced by the candidate or the documents are found to be due to willful forgery/act of cheating, offer of admission will be withdrawn and the candidate will be debarred from further rounds of seat allocation.

  5. For the purpose of allocating seats for NITs, IIEST and Other-GFTIs, there are Home State Quota and Other State Quota (All India Quota) assigned to each candidate. Most of the institutions under JoSSA offer 50% seats to candidates having the status of home status quota. Home state quota of a particular state or UT is provided to those candidates who have passed the class 12th examination from that state (even if the candidate resided in any other state). Even if the candidate has given the improvement exam from another state, the state from which he/she had given the class 12th examination first time would still be considered for home state quota.
