S.P. Jain School of Global Management, with campuses in Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, and Dubai is offering a three-year program leading to a Bachelor of Data Science. The course will begin in September 2019. The course is best for those with an aptitude for Statistics, Mathematics, and Programming.

Highlights of the course

The course curriculum will help you to acquire skills in Python, Scala, SPARK, Keras, TensorFlow, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Google, Firebase, MATLAB, and Scikit-learn. You will take up device-based projects in the fields of Computer vision, Machine intelligence and Deep Learning using Raspberry Pi, AWS deepens, Google AIY, Intel Movidius NCS, IoT, etc. The classroom academic sessions will be supported by industry internships to get hands-on experience.

You can pursue the program with one year study in Mumbai and then study abroad in Sydney for the second and third years or you study the entire course in Sydney. In both Mumbai and Sydney for the first year covering two semesters, you will be taught four subjects per semester. You will be required to attend lectures and tutorials for five days of the week for a duration of three hours per day. Best of all, you get to graduate with an Australian Degree with a two-year Post-study Work Rights in Australia, this being applicable as per the current Post-Study Work Visa Rights in Australia (the laws being subject to change).



Eligibility requirements

Academic qualifications

You should have completed high school/secondary school/junior college or any equivalent form of secondary education and also be in the top 25% of your class. Your selection to be shortlisted will depend on your marks in Class 10 or the most recent Board exam (this should have been taken in the past two years and not earlier than that) as well as scores in the SP Jain Entrance Test (SPJET) or SAT score.

In the case of applicants from Australia, the student must have a New South Wales (NSW) Higher School Certificate or its interstate equivalent with a minimum ATAR of 85. In the case of an International Baccalaureate Diploma qualification, the minimum score of 32 points (from at least six subjects, with three at a higher level) will be accepted. Also, the student should have completed an approved course at the level of Certificate IV taken at a registered provider of technical and vocational education in NSW or its interstate equivalent. Qualifications which are deemed to be equivalent to any of these are also acceptable.

In the case of international applicants, the eligibility is clearing the All India Senior School Certification Examination (CBSE), India School Certificate (ISC) Year 12 exam, or Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from the Indian State Boards with a minimum score of 70%. In the case of an International Baccalaureate Diploma qualification, the minimum score of 32 points (from at least six subjects, with three at a higher level) will be accepted. In the case of A Levels, it should be a minimum of grades B, B, B in 3 Advanced level subjects in the same sitting.



Proficiency in English

You must be reasonably proficient in English, and this will be checked during evaluations. In case you have not studied in English medium, then you must have acceptable English language scores as follows –
  1. IELTS overall score of 6, with no band less than 5.5.

  2. TOEFL iBT score of 60 overall, with no band less than 20.

  3. PTE score of 50, with no band less than 45.

Selection process

You need to take the SAT and score a minimum of 1250 or take the SP Jain Entrance Test (SPJET) and score a minimum of 70th percentile. Learn more about SPJET: https://www.spjain.org/programs/undergraduate/entrance-test.

Additionally, you have to take a Math test and achieve a score acceptable to the institute. SP Jain Global may consider giving admission to students with lower scores. However, this will be an exceptional case, taking into consideration academic performance and extracurricular achievements. Once you are shortlisted, you must make the payment of the SPJET Fee of USD45 before requesting for the date for taking SPJET.

The admissions team will also consider your subject knowledge, analytical skills, and other aspects during a personal interview If your application is shortlisted, then you will be called in for further evaluation. In this case, you need to pay an Evaluation Fee of USD55 before requesting an evaluation date. A final interview will be conducted by the course Director to evaluate your technical aptitude and after about one week you will receive an intimation on the admission decision via email.

You will need to show that you have sufficient financial resources to cover various expenses towards tuition fees, living, travel and/or any other personal expenses. Housing arrangements can be made through SP Jain Global on a first-come-first-serve basis. The student housing fees do not include the cost of meals and if you stay on campus during the semester break/summer break, there will be additional costs. When studying in Sydney, you need not stay on the campus and are free to make your own arrangements for accommodation. The housing fee is AUD13,000 for the first year, AUD13,300 for the second year, and AUD13,850 for the third year. The housing fees for the entire year must be paid by 1st August 2019 and not per semester. An interest of 15% will be charged for late payment.

Note that airfare has to be borne by the students. The registration fee, which must be paid every year along with the first semester fees for that year, covers various administrative costs such as for software, database management, learning management systems, etc. You can pay the tuition fee in two installments, with 50% per semester. You must pay all other fees prior to the start of the course/academic year. Fees are payable at SP Jain Global Sydney campus.

With regard to the Australia visa, you will be personally responsible for obtaining the visa, but the institute will provide the required assistance with the documentation process. Students are required to demonstrate sufficient financial resources to cover their expenses towards tuition fees, living, travel and/or any other personal expenses. Scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of academic achievements.
