The Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA), Government of India has announced that applications are open for students belonging to minority communities for three scholarship schemes, namely Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, and Merit-cum-Means based scholarships for the academic year 2019-2020. Since these are central government schemes, 100% funding is provided by the MoMA.

Overview

A student can apply for only one scholarship out of all the available scholarships. Further, scholarships will not be given to more than two students from the same family and for each scholarship, the income criteria need to be fulfilled. 30% of each of the scholarships is earmarked for girls' students of each minority community in a State/UT. This may be available to male students of that community in case of non-availability of female students in that community in that State/UT. The fees and maintenance allowance will be credited to the student's bank account directly under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. It is necessary for an applicant to provide the Aadhar Card number while applying for the scholarship. In case this is not available, the applicant can provide the details of alternative identification documents, as stated in the Gazette Notification (refer to the FAQs at the official website for optional acceptable documents). For the States of Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram, the Aadhar Number is not mandatory.

Who can apply: The scholarships are open for students belonging to the following six minority communities – Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Muslim, Parsis, Sikh, and Zoroastrian.

Important note: A university, institute, college, and school where a minority student is studying should get themselves registered (if not done earlier), at the National Scholarship website latest by 31st July 2019.
