The Recruitment and Assessment Centre (RAC) of the Aeronautics Research and Development Board (AR&DB), Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Govt. of India has announced a scholarship scheme exclusively for girls who wish to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate engineering studies in aeronautics, space, and avionics fields. The scholarships are for B.Tech. and M.Tech. courses in academic institutes which are UGC or AICTE-approved Govt. or autonomous institutions. Online applications will be accepted up to 10th September 2019.

Scholarship features

You can avail only one scholarship at a time. Accordingly, the institute where you have secured admission should issue a certificate that you are not availing of any other scholarship from any other institute or department or agency. All the scholarships will be awarded only on merit basis and the scheme is free from any Bond obligation. For the final year project work, though, you will be expected to work on it preferably in a DRDO or Govt. Laboratory, or in an AR&DB-funded project.

Undergraduate scholarships: There are 20 scholarships for a full-time 4-year Degree course. You should be pursuing B.E. or B.Tech. or B.Sc. (Engineering) course. The scholarship amount is Rs.1,20,000/- per year or annual fee, whichever is less, for a maximum period of four years.

Postgraduate scholarships: There are 10 scholarships for a full-time 2-year Degree course. You should be pursuing M.E., M.Tech. or M.Sc. (Engineering) course. The scholarship amount is Rs.1,86,000/- per year, at the rate of Rs.15,500/- per month, for a maximum period of two years.

For both, undergraduate and postgraduate studies, the subjects for which the scholarship application can be made are:
  1. Aerospace Engineering

  2. Aeronautical Engineering

  3. Space Engineering and Rocketry

  4. Avionics

  5. Aircraft Engineering

Note: In case you are pursuing a Dual Degree/integrated course, you will be eligible for the scholarship only for the first four years, this being applicable for a B.Tech. Degree course under the scheme.

Eligibility requirements

For both, undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships, only Indian nationals can apply. Other criteria are as mentioned below.

For Undergraduate scholarships: You should have secured admission in the first year of B.Tech./B.E. or equivalent in the current academic year 2019-2020. Secondly, you should have passed the JEE (Main) and have a valid JEE (Main) score.

For Postgraduate scholarships: You should have secured admission to the first year of the current academic year 2019-2020. Secondly, you should have scored a minimum of 60% in B.Tech./B.E. or equivalent qualifying exam. Thirdly, you should have a valid General Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score.

Important note: You must pass all the tests and exams of the institute so as to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 7.00 or 70% marks; otherwise the scholarship amount will not be disbursed. Also, in case a scholarship is discontinued, you will not be granted any amount further, even if you qualify for it as per the eligibility criteria, in later years.

Selection process

In the case of undergraduate scholarships, the selection will be on the basis of a valid JEE (Main) score, on a merit basis. In the case of postgraduate scholarships, the selection for the first year will be on the basis of a valid GATE score, on a merit basis.

How to apply

There is no payment to be paid at any stage of the selection process. Submit your application only in online mode at the Recruitment and Assessment Centre official website. You can also apply at the DRDO official website. Make sure that you correctly select the scholarship you wish to apply for.

The documents which are required to be scanned and uploaded with the online application are:
(i) All requisite certificates.
(ii) A recent passport size colour photo (max. size 50 KB).
(iii) Aadhar Card (max. size 500 KB).
(iv) Proof of admission (max. size 500 KB).
(v) Fees details (max. size 500 KB).
(vi) Certificate from the institute (max. size 500 KB).

Once you have completed the online application, take a printout of the finally submitted application for your own reference.

Last date to submit online application: 10th September 2019.

After selection

You must produce all certificates, in original, for verification in the Institute where you secured admission and a certificate has to be forwarded to AR&DB in this regard by the institute. The scholarship amount will be received by you through the Institute. For this, the Institute must submit the contingent bill with ECS mandate for release of the money for the scholarship applied for.
