Indian Coast Guard Yantrik 2019 recruitment for February 2020 batch


Are you keen to get enlisted in the Indian Coast Guard as a Yantrik? The Indian Coast Guard has issued the notification for Diploma holders to join as a Yantrik for the 2020 training course. Details of the eligibility criteria and application procedure have been provided in this article.

The Indian Coast Guard, Ministry of Defence invites applications from unmarried male Indian citizens fulfilling the requisite eligibility criteria to join as Yantrik for the 01/2020 batch. The course will begin in February next year.

Eligibility requirements

Educational Qualifications

You should be a matriculate or equivalent and also have a three-year Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics and Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering which should be an approved one by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), with at least 60% in aggregate. In the case of SC/ST candidates, sportspersons of National level who have obtained first, second or third position in any field sports event at the Open National Championship/Inter-State National Championship as well as wards of Coast Guard uniform personnel deceased during service, there is a 5% relaxation for the academic score cut-off. The qualifying percentage may be increased in case of a large number of applications.

Note: Those who acquire their Diploma from an : open school or institute which is not recognized by the Govt. are not eligible to apply.

Age criteria

You should be minimum 18 years of age and maximum 22 years of age, that is, born between 1st February 1998 and 31st January 2002 (both dates inclusive). For SC/ST category candidates there is an upper age relaxation of five years and for OBC category candidates it is three years.



Medical Standards

You should have a minimum height of 157cms. This will be relaxed as per Central Govt. orders in the case of candidates who are from hilly areas & tribal areas. For weight, it should be proportionate to your height and age (+/- 10% is acceptable). The chest should be well proportioned, with a minimum expansion of 5cms.

You should have normal hearing and no infection of the ears. It is advisable to get both ears cleaned for wax before reporting for the medical exam. The vision should be 6/24 without glasses / 6/9 & 6/12 with glasses for better eye and worse eye respectively. You should not have had any corrective surgery for eyesight.

Tattoos: Permanent ones are not allowed (check details in the official recruitment notification.

General health and fitness: You should be in good mental, medical and physical health, with no history of fits or psychiatric ailments. You should not be having any disease or disability which would interfere with performing your duties efficiently. It is also advisable to have your teeth cleaned of plaque and tartar before reporting for the medical exam.

Note: Candidates should not appear for the tests if they have been declared as permanently medically unfit by an Armed Forces hospital for any prior recruitment for the same entry in the Coast Guard.

Selection Procedure

The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of merit, as per their performance in the written test, the physical test, and fitness in medical exams. The written tests will be of an objective type, with the question paper having all questions from the branch in which you have acquired the Diploma (namely, Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics and Telecommunication).

Once you qualify through the written test, you will need to undergo the following-

  1. Physical Fitness Test (PFT): For this, you need to fulfil the medical standards as mentioned above. The fitness test will include a run of 1.6km, which should be completed within 7 minutes, 20 squat-ups, and 10 push-ups.
  2. Personal interview.
  3. Initial medical examination at the respective recruitment centre.

How to submit online application for Indian Coast Guard Yantrik 2019 recruitment

Applications will be accepted only through the online mode at the Indian Coast Guard official website. Ensure that you first read all the instructions before applying. Registration should be done with a valid personal email ID and mobile phone number.

Select the correct Yantrik position from the options provided, namely: (aa) Yantrik Technical (Mechanical); (ab) Yantrik Technical (Electrical); (ac) Yantrik Technical (Electronics and Telecommunication). On reading the instructions and clicking on 'I Agree', you will be taken to the page for the online application. After checking the details entered are correct, submit the application. You will then get a unique Application/Registration number, which you need to have for downloading the Admit card later and for any future communications. It is advisable to take three or more print outs of the completed application with roll number which has been generated by the computer system as you will need to take them later at the recruitment center.

At the recruitment center, you will be required to bring both, the original, and the self-attested photocopies of all the requisite documents (do not attach original to the application). Without these documents, you will not be allowed to appear in the exam. These documents are:
  1. Std. X class passing certificate and the mark sheet.

  2. Diploma certificate showing percentage of marks.

  3. Caste certificate where required.

  4. Games certificates if any.

  5. Two copies of your application form without any enclosure should be retained as an identity proof during the recruitment procedure.

Important Note: The details you fill in the online application should be the same as it appears in your 10th certificate, namely your name, the name of your father and date of birth. Similarly, the marks entered in the online application should be the same percentage (%) and the correct Diploma category. In case of any variations in any details, you will not be permitted to appear for the written test.

For the tests, you also require to produce a valid proof of identity (passport, voters ID, Aadhar Card, school or college ID, etc). You should also take 10 recent colour passport-size photos.

You can take a printout of the e-admit card at
https://joinindiancoastguard.gov.in/reprint.aspx from 1st September to 8th September 2019. You will require to have three copies of the e-admit card having allotted Roll number as well as the latest identical colour passport size photographs. This should not be older than one month and must be with a blue background, to be pasted and signed at the bottom of the e-admit card against space provided for the signature. You have to keep one e-admit card ready along with original documents and photocopies of all required documents (refer to the list above).

Yantrik Training Program

The basic training program will begin on February 2020 at INS Chilka and then there will be training at sea along with professional training. At any time during the training program, if a candidate is found unsuitable, he will be discharged on the grounds of unsatisfactory performance.

Pay & Perks of Yantrik post

The basic pay is Rs. 29200/- (Pay Level - 5). Additionally, you will get Yantrik pay as Rs.6200/- plus Dearness Allowance and other allowances and perquisites, such as accommodation for self and family on a nominal licence fee, access to canteen facilities, free medical treatment for self and family, insurance cover, etc. Promotion prospects are up to the rank of Pradhan Sahayak Engineer with pay scale of Rs.47600/- plus Yantrik pay at Rs.6200/- with Dearness Allowance. You can get promotions up to the next rank and Officer cadre based on suitability and performance.
