B.Sc. B.Sc. Aviation is a three-years science stream undergraduate course that teaches the operations and flying of aeroplane, helicopters, gliders, etc. It covers the design, manufacturing, internal mechanism of an aircraft's, safety measures, maintenance, improvements and other precautionary measures to be taken while flying an aircraft. The graduate in aviation have knowledge and practical training in all the above area.

Course Eligibility

The candidates willing to have their career in the aviation sector need to have the following eligibility in order to get into the B.Sc. Aviation course.
  • The candidate must have passed his/her class X std. or Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from a recognised board with a minimum of 50% in all subject.
  • The candidate must have appeared or passed his/her class XII std. or Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) in science stream from a recognised board with a minimum of 50% in English, Maths and Physics.
  • A student who has cleared a 3-year/ 4-year diploma in Engineering or Technology can also apply for the said course provided they have passed from a recognised board or AICTE approved institute.
  • The candidate must have a medical fitness certificate from a Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approved Medical doctor along with good vision.
  • Candidates also need to have certificate depending upon the course they are planning to join.

Admission Procedure & Fees:-

The admission for the course is a complete merit-based process. The application can be done via online or offline mode through the respective college or university website. Usually, the admission form is out in the month of May or June or as soon as the class XII std. or Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) results are out. Most of the well-known colleges have their own admission process that includes entrance tests and interview along with the class X and class XII marks/percentage of students. The final merit list is made accordingly. Some institutes also have quotas for the seats available.

The Fees for the course vary from college to college or university to university. The yearly fee for the course is between 3 Lakhs and even go up to 25 lakhs Indian Rupees per annum.

Course Duration

As it is an undergraduate programme in science, the academic module is a 3-years full time course. The course is parted into 6 semesters of six months each, i.e. 2 semesters in each year. Some university can have it as a semester pattern while some have it as a yearly pattern.

Profession Opportunities and Salary

As many don't know that job opportunities that a B.Sc. Aviation graduates have, I have just listed the high-flying jobs open for the candidates who have completed their graduations in Aviation.
  • Pilot: They are the one who fly or control an aircraft. The selection is only to the candidates who have Commercial Pilot Licence. The hiring and salary can differ from company to company and based on flying hours/experience.
  • Air Traffic Controller: They are the one who coordinate, control and manage the air traffic, flight and landing on the airline or flight.
  • Flight attendant/ Cabin Crew/ Air Hostess: They are employed to assist and help passengers during their flight.
  • Aircraft / Service maintenance engineer: This engineer is recruited to install, maintain and repair aircraft engines and other plane equipment's.
  • Airport Duty manager / Cargo Manager: They manage and coordinate with other staffs to manage correct and timely management of goods and services.
  • Ground duty staff in charge/ Supervisor / Manager: They manage schedule for flight, boarding, security check-in and other help to passengers.
  • Ait ticketing / Tours & Travel: They help people to book their ticket or tour with a given airline with the best package.
  • Design / Manufacturing / Production / Maintenance manager: They are responsible for new technology, innovation and manufacturing of aircraft.
  • Aircraft software testing engineer: They are in charge of testing and checking of aircrafts software and controls with control room and cock-pit.
  • Any Airlines / Aeronautical firm.

Salary differs from company to company and even from freshers to experience. It also depends on the job profile, designation and company standard. A fresher can expect an average salary of 3.5 Lakhs P.A to 6 Lakhs P.A. It is best to get selection through campus as the standard salary for the direct campus selected candidates are much high than through normal selection process. As the aviation industry has a good boom and the experience of 1 -2 years will help to have a good jump in the salary slab. The job profile, position and company also play an important role in the salary.
