Visiting Kasauli - traveller tips to a beautiful weekend destination

Himachal Pradesh is famous as Devbhoomi and is having many tourist places. Kasauli is one of them. Kasauli is a hilly town located in the district Solan of Himachal Pradesh. I visited Kasauli last year in the month of June with my family (my husband and my son) and this article provides an insight into the trip, with details on how to reach Kasauli, some hotels and resorts for stay and the major attractions of Kasauli.

Kasauli is a popular hill station of Himachal Pradesh. It is a very small town and famous for amazing architecture developed by British. If anybody wants to relax and live in peace, Kasauli is the right place.

How to reach Kasauli

We booked our train tickets from Delhi to Chandigarh on the Kalka Shatabdi evening train. Then, after reaching there we stayed at a Hotel in Chandigarh. Next day we booked an Ola cab for the to and fro journey of Kasauli. It was a comfortable journey. The total cost for this taxi was around Rs.3500/-. The total distance between Chandigarh and Kasauli is 55 km. and there is no direct train or bus between these two stations. One can take a bus from Chandigarh to Dharampur, then one for Kasauli. You can also go to Kalka and get a bus for Kasauli. However, it is advisable to take a taxi for the whole trip.

Hotel and resorts in Kasuali

As Kasauli is a popular tourist destination, lots of hotels and resorts are there. We tried to book a hotel/resort on sites like make my trip and, but due to the peak tourist season, the apps were showing as all hotels full. Hence, we visited a number of hotels and resorts and then selected one for our stay.

Here is the list of resorts:

Kasauli Exotica

It is located on the main Kasauli road, near Inspection bungalow, Kasauli. It is a good place and surrounded by beautiful hills. Rooms are spacious, with a neat and clean bathroom. Room prices starts from Rs.3,000 — Rs7,000, which depends upon the type of room. Manki Point is 2.5km, Gilbert trail is 1.9km and Sunset point and Christ church are only 400-500m away from this hotel.

Winnies Holiday Resort and Spa

It is also located on the main Kasauli road, at Vilage Sanawar adjacent to Lawrence School, Sanawar. It is surrounded by Reserved Forest areas. Great scenic beauty is there. It is a very peaceful place for staying. Manki Point is 2.6 km, Gilbert trail is 2.5 km, Sunset point is 2.4 km and Christ church is 3 km away from this hotel. Room prices range between Rs.5000/- — Rs.12000/-.

Nature stay

It is also very good for a stay as it gives a feeling of living with nature. Homely food is available. Amazing view of Valleys and hills can be seen from here. Parking problem is there, though. Room price ranges between Rs.2000/- — Rs.5000/-. No WiFi and intercom services are available. Manki Point is 300 m, Gilbert trail is 800 m, Sunset point is 2.1 km and Christ church is 2.7 km away from this home stay.

Willow woods Resort

Finally, we selected Willow Woods. It is located at Dharampur Kasauli Road, Village Sanawar Kasauli. It was 6 Kms before the Mall road in Kasauli. The view of the Valley and hills is amazing.

Parking facility is also available. It is located on a convenient location, not too far from the Kasauli main market. It is a peaceful place with big, neat and clean rooms, a clean bathroom. For AC Super deluxe room we paid Rs.3500/-. No complimentary breakfast is provided, though. Food was good. Manki Point is 2.7 km, Gilbert trail is 2.5 km, Sunset point is 2.4 km and Christ church is 3 km away from this hotel.

Attractions of Kasauli

Besides the scenic beauty of valleys and hills, a number of other tourist places are also there like:
  • Monkey point/Hanuman Mandir:

  • It is a divine place, but at a high altitude. The height of the temple here is above 6100 feet (1.86 km). When you look at the view from this height, it seems like as though we are covered in clouds! Note that mobile phones and cameras are not allowed here.

  • Gilbert trail:

  • It is approx. a 1.5 m long walking trail. Here you can enjoy natural beauty, but note that it is narrow and difficult at some places.

  • Sunset point:

  • This is the best place to see the sunset and sunrise.

  • Christ Church:

  • It is a 19th century old church with awesome British-era architecture, though it is little crowded due to its vicinity being close to the Mall road.

Overall, Kasauli is a very good tourist destination especially for time to spend peacefully with family on weekends, full of scenic beauty of hills and valleys. One must go there and enjoy.

After reading this article my thoughts immdiately went to 1982 when I was in Delhi for five years studying Bcom and Mcom and also happen to work there and in the week end we planned for Dehradun and Rishikesh and on the way the bus reached Kasauli for a tea break and that was the evening and really liked this place which was more good in nature and greenery and the hills were enchanting. The author has rekindled my 31 years throw back life of that time. Thanks for the same.
