About CMAT 2020


Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is a computer-based national level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to various management programs across India. NTA is an Autonomous Organization under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of HRD, Government of India. CMAT score will be accepted by over 1000 participating institutions.

After qualifying in the CMAT exam, candidates have to apply separately to the desired CMAT 2020 participating institutions. Each institute will announce their own respective cut-off CMAT score, which candidates should meet. If qualified, candidates need to appear for the selection procedure which may comprise of Group Discussion and/ or Personal Interview conducted by the particular institute.

Eligibility criteria


Candidates need to fulfill the following eligibility criteria to apply for CMAT 2020 Examination:

  • Bachelor's degree holder (10+2+3 pattern) in any discipline can apply.
  • Candidates appearing for the final year of a Bachelor's degree can also apply. Subject to the result declaration before the commencement of admission.
  • Candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • There is no age restriction.

Reservation details


For admission to a participating institute, candidates are advised to check the reservations applicable to that particular institute. In the case of institutes run by Central Government reservation will be as follows:

  • General-Economically Weaker Section(GEN-EWS) - 10%
  • Scheduled Caste (SC) - 15%
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) - 7.5%
  • Other Backward Classes belonging to the "Non-Creamy layer" (OBC-NCL) - 27%
  • Persons with Disabilities (PwD) - 5%

CMAT 2020 Test pattern


CMAT 2020 will be conducted on 28th January 2020 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. There will be a total of 100 questions, each question carries 4 marks. For each incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted. And the test pattern is as follows:

  1. Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation - 25 questions (100 marks)
  2. Logical Reasoning - 25 questions (100 marks)
  3. Language Comprehension - 25 questions (100 marks)
  4. General Awareness - 25 questions (100 marks)

Guidelines to candidates for exam


Candidates have to report at the exam centre 2 hours before the commencement of exam. Candidates will not be permitted to enter in the exam center after 8:30 a.m. Candidates need to bring the following list of documents on the day of examination:

  • Print copy of Admit card
  • One passport size photograph same as uploaded on the online application form
  • Anyone original and valid photo ID (PAN card/ Driving License/ Voter ID/ Passport/ Aadhaar Card/ Ration Card)
  • In the case of the PwD category, the PwD certificate issued by the authorized medical officer.

Application process


Interested and eligible candidates willing to apply for CMAT-2020 can apply online at official website from 1st November to 30th November 2019. Candidates have to fill the online application form and have to note down the application number generated by the system. Candidates have to upload the scanned images of passport size photograph and signature. And candidates have to pay the application fee for CMAT 2020 using Credit card/ Debit card/ Net Banking/ UPI/ Paytm. The city for the exam can be chosen by the candidates on the first-come-first-serve basis after paying the application fee.

Application fee details
Application fee for CMAT 2020 is as follows:

  • For General: Rs 1600/-(for Boys), Rs.1000/- (for Girls)
  • For Gen-EWS/OBC (NCL): Rs 1000/- (for Boys), Rs.1000/- (for Girls)
  • For SC/ ST/ PwD: Rs 800/- (for Boys), Rs. 700/- (for Girls)
  • For Transgender: Rs. 700/-

Important dates to remember


  • Start date of online application: 1st November 2019
  • Last date for submission of online application: 30th November 2019 up to 11:50 pm
  • Dates for the successful final transaction of fee: 1st November 2019 to 1st December 2019 up to 11:50 pm
  • Dates for the choice of the city: 1st November 2019 to 2nd December 2019 up to 11:50 pm
  • Date of printing of admit cards from NTA website: From 24th December 2019
  • Date of GMAT Examination: 28th January 2020 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
  • Date of declaration of result: By 7th February 2020

CMAT test is a vital test being conducted by NTA. With total devotion and consistent effort, aspirants may achieve grand percentiles so as to select distinguished institutes for getting quality education in the area of Management.

Here allocation of time for each question is not adequate enough comparing the number of questions set. Hence a thorough concept in the related portion would be required with the inputs provided by the noted Institutes of the concerned area.

The author has incorporated all the relevant guidelines to the aspirants so as not to face any hardship in this regard.
