Library science is one of the best job oriented courses we have at present. The concept of the library is changed from the old days. In the old days, we can expect a picture of an idle librarian in a corner and a large number of fiction and non-fiction books kept on different shelves. In short, many times, a librarian is referred as only a bookkeeper. But in the modern concept of Library science, he is considered as an information dispenser.

Duties of a Librarian

In the modern era, as per Library science concept, the duties of a librarian are given below

  • Update the library with the inclusion of new and quality books.

  • Make and keep a list of useful website details as per alphabetical order.

  • The periodicals and journals should protect with quality binding or protect as computer files.

  • Provide help to library users to select the books through online or by walk-in to the library.

  • Prepare index cards and computer files on the basis of the subject of the books or the author of the books.

  • Arrange entire books in the library in order to find them as early as possible.

In the old concept of a library, it stores only books. But in the modern concept of library science, a library means including CD-ROMS for reference and knowledge sharing, Microfiche, Film strips, films, videotapes, etc other than books. It means the library and information science is a profession meant only for those who are ready to face the challenges of knowledge sharing and distribution.
