About NIFT

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was established in the year 1986 and it is a pioneering institute of fashion education in India. This institute was made a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act of the Indian Parliament. The head office of NIFT is located in New Delhi and it had campuses at Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Raebareli, Shillong, and Srinagar. Admissions 2020

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has announced admissions 2020 to the following programs:

Bachelor programs 2020 at NIFT:
  1. Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) Program in
    Fashion Design, Leather Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, Fashion Communication
  2. Bachelor of FashionTechnology (B.FTech) Program in
    Apparel Production
Master programs 2020 at NIFT:
  1. Master of Design (M.Des.)
  2. Master's Program in Fashion Management (M.F.M)
  3. Master's Program in Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech.)




Reservation details

Reservation of seats in each program is as follows
  • SC: 15%
  • ST: 7.5%
  • OBC (Non-Creamy): 27%
  • GEN-EWS: 10%
  • Person with Disability (PWD): 5%


For Foreign nationals/ SAARC/ NRI/ OCI availability of seats is as follows:
  • 5 (supernumerary) seats at NIFT Campuses - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Raebareli, Srinagar
  • 3 (supernumerary) seats at NIFT Campuses - Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna, Shilong


Eligibility criteria

Eligibility criteria for bachelors and masters programs in NIFT is given below:

Bachelor of Design (B.Des.):
  • Candidates who have passed the +2 level exam (in the 10+2 pattern) of any central/ state board of secondary exam. OR
  • Candidates with a passing grade in the SSC Exam with a minimum of 5 subjects conducted by the national open school. OR
  • Candidates who have completed 3 or 4 years diploma course recognized by State Board of Technical Education or AICTE. OR
  • Candidates who have passed any public school/ board/ university exam equivalent to the 10+2 system in India or in foreign countries recognized by the AIU. OR
  • Candidates who have passed the General Certificate Education exam (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the Advanced Level/ International Baccalaureate.


Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.FTech):
  • Candidates who have passed the +2 level exam (in the 10+2 pattern) of any central/ state board of secondary exam with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. OR
  • Candidates with a passing grade in the SSC Exam with a minimum of 5 subjects with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, conducted by the national open school. OR
  • Candidates who have completed 3 or 4 years diploma course recognized by State Board of Technical Education or AICTE. OR
  • Candidates who have passed any public school/ board/ university exam equivalent to the 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in India or in foreign countries recognized by the AIU. OR
  • Candidates who have passed the General Certificate Education exam (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) Level with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ International Baccalaureate.


Master of Design (M.Des.), Master's Program in Fashion Management (M.F.M):
  • Candidates with an undergraduate degree in any discipline from any recognized institute/ university.
    OR
  • Candidates with an undergraduate degree of minimum 3-year duration from NIFT/ NID


Master's Program in Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech.):
  • Candidates with B.F.Tech. a qualification from NIFT. OR
  • Candidates with a qualification - B.E./ B.Tech from any recognized institute or university


Application process

All the candidates other than Foreign National/ SAARC/ NRI/ OCI Category can apply online at the official website. Candidates have to pay the application fee of Rs. 2000/- (for General/ OBC Non-Creamy/ GEN-EWS Category) and Rs. 1000/- (For SC/ ST/ PWD) through the online payment gateway or through DD issued in favor of "NIFT HO" which is payable at New Delhi. Candidates applying through DD have to take the print out of the application form and send it along with DD to the address mentioned below. The last date for online registration is 31st December 2019. Last date for online registration with late fee of Rs. 5000/- is 4th January 2020. In case of payment of late fee with DD, the print out of application and DD should reach the below address before 3rd January 2020.

Selection procedure

All the eligible candidates have to go through the examination process. Examination for each program is given below:

B.Des: Candidates have to take the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT). And the shortlisted candidates of these exams have to undergo the situation test.

B.FTech:: Candidates have to take the General Ability Test (GAT)

M.Des.:: Candidates have to take the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT). And the shortlisted candidates of these exams have to attend for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

M.F.M, M.FTech: Candidates have to take the General Ability Test (GAT). And the shortlisted candidate has to attend for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Test details

General Ability Test: The General Ability Test (GAT) consists of 100 questions for B.Des. and 120 questions for M.Des. GAT consists of following sections:

  1. Quantitative Ability
  2. Communication Ability
  3. English Comprehension
  4. Analytical Ability
  5. General Knowledge and Current Affairs


Creative Ability Test: Creative Ability Test (CAT) consists total of 150 questions in these following sections:

  1. Quantitative Ability
  2. Communication Ability and English Comprehension
  3. Analytical and Logical Ability
  4. General Knowledge and Current Affairs
  5. Case Study


Situation Test: Situation test is a hands-on test to evaluate the skills of a candidate for material handling and innovative ability with a given set of materials in a given situation.

For Foreign National/ SAARC/ NRI/ OCI Category

Application Process
Candidates applying under the Foreign National/ SAARC/ NRI/ OCI Category have to apply online NIFT official website. The last date to apply is 30th April 2020. Candidates have to arrange to send the SAT/ GMAT/ GRE test score directly to NIFT, H.O. Delhi before 30th April 2020. Candidates need to pay the application fee of US$ 125 through online NIFT payment gateway.

Selection procedure

The program and the campus will be allotted for the candidates based on the score obtained by them in the following examinations and their overall performance. The score of these exams should not have been declared before 1st January 2018.

  • B.Des. and B.FTech: SAT Score
  • M.F.M: GMAT Score
  • M.Des. and M.FTech: GRE Score

  • The start date for online registration: 23rd October 2019
  • Last date for online registration: 31st December 2019
  • Last date for online registration with late fee: 4th January 2020
  • Dates for editing or updating the application form: From 1st January to 4th January 2020
  • Date of availability of admit card: 10th January 2020
  • Date of written entrance exam: 19th January 2020
  • Date of Result of Written entrance examination: February or March 2020
