How to take a much needed break from social media addiction

In the world of mobile phones, many people have enslaved themselves. If you're looking at your surroundings, you'll get to know it's true. Social media have a vital role to play in this. If you're one of them, you need to think about taking a break from this addiction. Here's the reason and how.

Side effects of social media addiction

For many of us, social media has become a daily routine. We don't even realize how much time we're spending to surf it. At that time, we're just scrolling through feeds, liking photos, posting comments, uploading. Our thumb is functioning, but most of the other parts are inactive. Health experts say that the new smoking is sitting. I would like to point out that we may initially have spent about two hours on social media and then the use of it has rise over the years. We can learn from this that this is pretty addictive. Being successful on the platform of social media is a lot of fun, but we don't realize that this is a silent killer. Studies have found that a new form of anxiety is developing.

Nobody posts their ugly photos on Instagram or Facebook. Everyone shares the moment of happiness, luxury, well-polished moments of life in social media. We begin to compare ourselves with the others when we see this. We're comparing our lives with theirs. We think they've all had a pretty good life. But sometimes it won't be true what they show. They're still experiencing difficulties. But they're not going to share it. We've had more online buddies than real friends. Social media feeds will appear like they're all enjoying their lives, except us. It makes us a little more depressed. This creates a lower self-esteem. That develops a sense of jealousy towards others in our lives. We envy others for their happiness. So we're starting to comment negatively in the feeds out of frustration which will develop less self-control. The increased count of social media friends doesn't mean you're social. If we spend a lot of time on social media, the time with our loved ones will be reduced.

Methods to follow to take a real break from this addiction

We use a lot of detoxes to clean our bodies. In fact, these detox methods will give us a more defined lifestyle and a healthier life. In the same way, we need some detox techniques to be followed regularly to eliminate our social media cravings. First of all, we have to understand that what we see on social media doesn't have to be real life. Not only that, but we also have to realize that spending a lot of time on it means that we're missing out on a lot of precious moments in our lives. As mentioned earlier, this can lead to many health problems, both physically and mentally. We can certainly avoid these dangers if we try to do the following -
  • You need to set a time limit for spending time on social media sites. The amount of time you're going to use should be less than the amount of time you're spending a day now. If you can't follow this on your own, you can relay it to some apps. They will help you to follow this schedule by blocking access to social media on your mobile phone. They're available for both Android and iOS users.

  • One thing you need to do is change the way you use this platform of social media. Instead of sitting down for a long time scrolling through various social and other sites and answering everything you see, try to use it for things that have a positive effect. Don't be jealous of the lives of others and compare them to our own. You have to work hard to accept it positively.

  • Nowadays, many people use social media only to know what's going on in the world. They follow a lot of news feeds and use a lot of time to scroll through it. Instead of finding news from social feeds, you need to use other mechanisms such as watching TV broadcasts, surfing through a new paper website or installing some android or iOS news apps. It will definitely save you more time than scrolling through feeds from social media and help you get on the right track without getting distracted.

Conclusion

Although there may be some good aspects, the wave of the present obsession of social media has a very high likelihood of unlimited use. Therefore, you can totally get rid of this addiction if you follow the above steps correctly. Nowadays, the world needs a more productive generation than a lazy one. Social media ought not to make us pitiful. They should help us to grow better. We need to make very particular use of them.
