Walk-in-interview for apprentices in BHEL Electronics Division Bangalore

About BHEL

BHEL or the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, a Maharatna company, is one of the leading engineering enterprises in the country. Owned by the Government of India, it caters to varied fields such as power generation, transmission, transportation, renewable energy, defence, nuclear energy and industry sectors like oil & gas, cement and fertilizer. BHEL has numerous manufacturing units spread across the country that provide employment opportunities to many. Not only just manufacturing of equipment related to power generation, the company is also in the field of establishing thermal power projects for state as well as private power utilities. The outreach of BHEL can be understood from the fact that almost sixty percent of the power generation equipment being used in the country are manufactured by the company. The Maharatna PSU has also been instrumental in setting up various thermal power projects in more than 70 countries; the most recent one being the INR 10,000 crore 2x660MW Maitree Super Thermal Power Project in Bangladesh.

Requirement of apprentices in EDN Bangalore

Currently, BHEL has a requirement of apprentices for its EDN or Electronic Division in Bangalore. EDN Bangalore is one of the manufacturing units of BHEL that manufactures state of the art equipment in the field of power plant automation and control systems. It also manufactures IGBT based traction drive systems for locomotives and simulation systems & controls for ships of the Indian Navy. It has its presence in the renewable energy sector too, as it manufactures photovoltaic cells, solar panels, space batteries and other related equipment.

Vacancies for two kinds of apprenticeship are currently available at EDN Bangalore, graduate apprenticeship and technician apprenticeship. Following are the details.

Graduate apprentices

These apprenticeships are meant for engineering degree holders. The number of vacancies available are five. Their branch wise distribution is as follows.
  • Electronics & Communication - 01
  • Electrical & Electronics - 03
  • Computer Science - 01

The minimum qualification required is a degree in engineering in any of the above streams from a recognized institution. Those who have attained their qualification in 2017, 2018 or 2019 are only eligible to apply.

Technician apprentices

These are meant for diploma holders. There are 51 vacancies. The necessary qualification is a Diploma in Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering. The qualification should have been attained post 01.01.2017.

Age limit

The applicant's age as on 01.12.2019 should not be less than 18 years. The maximum age limit is 27 years for applicants in the general category. For OBC applicants, the age limit is 30 years and for SC/ST, 32 years. PwD candidates with not less than 40% disability will be given 10 years relaxation in age.

For wards of serving or deceased BHEL employees, an additional 05 years relaxation in age is applicable.

How to apply

Interested and eligible candidates to come for a walk-in-interview at Electronics Division (EDN) of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited at Mysore Road, Bengaluru. The date of interview is 09.12.2019 from 9 am to 11 am and 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Candidates need to come with the original and two sets of following self-attested documents.

  1. Degree or diploma certificate, as applicable
  2. Semester/year wise mark sheets for the respective qualification
  3. Class X certificate for date of birth proof
  4. Caste certificate for SC, ST and OBC candidates issued by competent authority
  5. For OBC candidates, a self-undertaking, belonging to non-creamy layer
  6. Disability certificate for PwD applicants
  7. Candidates with CGPA result, a CGPA to percentage conversion formula

Stipend, if any

The selected candidates will be paid monthly stipend as follows.
  • Graduate apprentices – INR 9,000 per month
  • Technician apprentices – INR 8,000 per month

Mode of selection

The candidates will be selected merit wise, based on their consolidated marks in all the semesters or years, as applicable, during the course of their engineering education. In case the number of candidates for the walk-in-interview is more, the candidates will be then asked to submit the photocopy of their documents and selected candidates will be intimated later. Wards of BHEL employees would be given additional weightage.

Important points to note

  • The apprenticeship or the training is for a period of one year. After completion of the period, the candidate will not have any right to claim further employment in BHEL.
  • The candidates will have to get themselves registered with the Board of Apprenticeship Training, Southern Region, Chennai. In case registration is refused by the Board, the candidate will have to forego the training.
  • Post qualification, candidates who have already undergone such training or employment, for a period more than one year, are not eligible to apply.
  • Reservation for SC/ST/OBC candidates will be there as per the extant government rules and clauses. Candidates with knowledge of Kannada will be preferred.
  • Candidates need to have a valid email id.
  • Updates if any, will be published at the BHEL Electronics Division website www.edn.bhel.com.
  • Indian nationals are only eligible to apply.
  • The necessary format for OBC candidates is available in the website itself.
  • No TA/DA is permissible for the interview
