Indian Council of Historical Research(ICHR) New Delhi is an autonomous organization that was established in the year 1972. Now ICHR invites applications from candidates who are interested to do Post Doctoral Fellowships in ICHR for the academic year 2020-21. For this year, the maximum number of fellowships available will be only 10. The usual reservation will be applied for SC/ST/PwD candidates. The full details are mentioned below.


A fellowship of Rs.30800/- per month as well as contingency grant Rs.22000/- per annum will be given to the selected candidates. The maximum period of fellowships will be 2 years only. The candidates will be given PDF awards through a presentation-cum-interview.


Candidates who wish to apply for this fellowship must be affiliated with a reputed University or Research Institute. Those who have shown significant competence in their research work, having been awarded PhDs or have done any other equivalent research work in History are eligible to apply for this fellowships. In addition, they must have a desire to work on any approved research themes at a recognized Research Institute or University under the guidance of a senior scholar.

  • General candidates: Rs 600/-
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/Persons with Disability (PwD) category are exempted from fees

How to pay the application fees?

It should be paid in the form of a DD drawn in favour of the DDO, ICHR, payable at New Delhi.

All candidates are requested to submit a detailed synopsis on the proposed research topic along with their application forms and documents/self attested copies of certificates like

Selection process

Selected candidates will be called to make a presentation for 30 minutes on their proposed subject of research. Following the presentation, there will be an interview which will be held at the ICHR offices. The date and venue of interview will be announced on the website.
