Overview There are seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. These autonomous institutes offer interdisciplinary programs in the field of science education as well as research programs. The admission notification for the BS-MS five year Dual Degree program for the academic session starting in 2020 has now been announced.

All IISERs will grant admission to students through a single, common application process and there is only one application form that will be accepted as valid for all the IISERs. However, those who g0t admission earlier in any of the IISERs are not eligible to apply. It should be noted at the outset that there are a few changes this year for the program. Firstly, it is not necessary to wait for the Class 12 exam results as those applying through the SCB channel (State and Central Board exams channel) can start applying from 23rd March. Secondly, the marks' requirement has been reduced from the top 1 percentile to the top 20 percentile. Thirdly, the entrance test is a computer-based aptitude test to be conducted at multiple d test centres across India.
Foreign students are also welcome to apply. A candidate will be applying as a foreign student if he/she is not a citizen of India by birth or naturalized and does not belong to the PIO/OCI category, and his/her parents are not citizens of India and do not come under the PIO/OCI category at the time of submitting the application.
Features of IISER BS-MS Dual program The BS-MS dual Degree program is of five years' duration. The students are required to reside on the campus of the IISER where they are pursuing the course. Hostel accommodation with all the requisite medical, sports, and canteen facilities is provided, as also for recreational activities. The campuses are located at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tirupati. During the course, the curriculum ensures that you will get in-depth knowledge in the fields of sciences, engineering sciences, and economics. However, you are not merely attending lecture sessions in a classroom, but will also be working on exciting research-based projects. There are also unique opportunities for taking up a research internship and you can even do an MS thesis.
You can pursue a program in Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Data Science, Earth and Climate Sciences/Earth and Environmental Sciences, Economic Sciences, Engineering Sciences (Chemical Engineering, Data Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science), Geological Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
Note: IISER Bhopal is the only one where you can pursue a four-year BS program in Engineering Sciences and Economics.
Eligibility requirements for IISER BS-MS program You can apply for admission to the five-year BS-MS dual program if you have passed the 10+2 exam or any equivalent exam with science stream in 2019 or 2020. You are eligible to apply through any of these three channels:
Important point to note: You are advised to check (i) the performance criteria in the Class 12 Board exam or the equivalent exam and (ii) the methodology required to calculate marks (out of 500) in Class 12 or the equivalent exam, before applying for admission to the IISER admission-2020. Secondly, you must have at least one of the two subjects Mathematics and Biology at 10+2 level. Also, if you are applying for admission to the BS degree program in Economics and Engineering Sciences at IISER Bhopal, you must have done Mathematics as one of the subjects at the +2 level.
Application feeThose applying under General, EWS, and OBC-NCL categories have to pay an application fee of Rs.2,000/-. Persons with Disabilities and candidates under SC/ST category have to pay an application fee of Rs.1,000/-. The application fee for foreign nationals is US$100. The application fee has to be made through online mode only.
Scholarships Students who apply on the basis of KVPY channel can avail of the KVPY scholarship as per KVPY norms. Others who are applying on the basis of JEE or SCB channel are eligible for a limited number of INSPIRE scholarships which are disbursed as per the norms of the Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. Additionally, academic performance throughout may determine eligibility for scholarships.
IISER-2020 Aptitude test The aptitude test which is mandatory for students applying through the SCB channel is a computer-based one in Hindi and English medium. You can select the choice of the city while filling up the online application. The list of centers can be viewed at http://www.iiseradmission.in/index.php/pages/examcenters. The hall ticket for the test will be available for download on the website a few days before the IISER aptitude test.
The aptitude test will have 15 multiple-choice questions (each with only one correct answer) in each of four subjects, namely Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics with equal weightage (totally 60 questions). The duration of the test is 180 minutes. Three marks will be awarded for each correct response and -1 for each incorrect response. Zero points will be awarded for no response. How to apply for IISER BS-MS program admissions 2020 You must submit your application in online mode only at IISER BS-MS program admissions website. You can give your preference of the IISER where you wish to do the course, in the online application form, but the allotment is based on the availability of seats in the respective IISERs, your rank in the merit list, and your preferences.

Those seeking admission to the BS-MS dual degree program should note that due to the current pandemic scenario, there have been a number of updates for this admission. First and most important is that the IISER Aptitude Test has been postponed and the new date will be put up at the official website later. Secondly. the last date for receipt of the online applications has been extended up to 16th August 2020, including for KVPY and SCB applications. Thirdly, there is a change in the cut-off marks in 10+2 or eligibility for IISER Admissions in 2020 - either 60% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade for General category and OBC category candidates and 55% for SC, ST and PWD category candidates in any Boards or the cut-off marks already announced for each of the Boards at the admission website, whichever is lower.
