Entrance exam PUBDET-2020 for admission in Bachelor Degree UG courses in Presidency University

Being set up in the year of 1962 by West Bengal Government, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board is recognized as a statutory body as well as authorized to organize joint entrance examination for admission in medical, engineering and technological courses in various institutions. The board is also responsible for conducting the common entrance tests for admission to various professional and vocational courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The board is presently published that the Presidency University Bachelor Degree Entrance Test (PUBDET) 2020 will be organized for admission to 3-year BA / B.Sc (Honours) in the said university for the academic year 2020-21. Accordingly, all eligible candidates are requested to read all details carefully and register their applications through an online portal only in time.



Eligibility

  1. Candidates should be an Indian citizen
  2. Candidates should be passed in Higher Secondary Exam (10+2) organized by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or any equivalent exam in the year of 2019 or appeared in the year of 2020 with minimum five recognized subjects of at least 100 full marks including English language and excluding Environmental Science. The aggregate will be based on scores in the best four recognized subjects.
  3. Candidates having International 'A' level or International Baccalaureate qualification should have minimum of three subjects with English in each of IGCSE and 'A' level.
  4. Applicants should have following minimum aggregate scores in percentage in the 12th standard exam:
    1. Bengali, Hindi, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology and Performing Arts: 60 for General, 45 for SC / ST, 54 for OBC-A/B and 57 for PwD
    2. English and History: 65 for General, 48.75 for SC / ST, 58.50 for OBC-A/B and 61.75 for PwD
    3. Chemistry, Economics, Geography, Geology, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics: 70 for General, 52.50 for SC / ST, 63 for OBC-A/B and 66.50 for PwD
  5. There is no age bar for the candidates.

Examination syllabus

  1. Question papers of Bengali, English and Hindi will be written in their own language based on the syllabus Bengali, English and Hindi respectively.
  2. Both English and Bengali will be the language of question paper for History following the subjects of History and English language having 80 and 20 marks respectively.
  3. Candidates of Philosophy, Sociology and Performing Arts will have to answer against a question paper in English on Logical reasoning and English language with 60 and 40 marks respectively.
  4. Question of Political Science will be in both English and Bengali medium on Political Science for 80 marks and English language for 20 marks.
  5. Question Chemistry, Life Science, Mathematics, Statistics and Physics will be made in both English and Bengali on their own subject. However, syllabus of Biology will be followed for Life Sciences.
  6. Question of 70 marks on Mathematics and 30 marks on English for Economics, 50 marks each in Geography and Basic Science for Geography and 40 in Mathematics, 30 in Physics and 30 in Chemistry for Geology will be tested. All questions will be written both in English and Bengali.

Pattern of question and scoring methodology

50 numbers of Multiple-Choice type questions (MCQ) having 2 marks each will be asked for every subject. Candidates have to answer within 90 minutes. Each question will have four options out of which only one will be correct. Candidates have to choose the right one to get 2 marks. But be cautious! Every wrong answer will have negative 1/2 marks! Zero mark will be given in case of non-attempting questioned.

    • 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. : Physics and Political Science
    • 12:00 p.m. - 01:30 p.m. : Geography and Hindi
    • 2:00 p.m. - 3.30 p.m. : Mathematics, Philosophy, Sociology and Performing Arts
    • 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. : Geology and History
  • 12th April 2020, Sunday:
    • 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. : Chemistry and Bengali
    • 12:00 p.m. - 01:30 p.m. : Statistics and English
    • 2:00 p.m. - 3.30 p.m. : Life Science and Economics

How to apply

Interested candidates who are eligible may register their applications online at https://wbjeeb.nic.in. Applicants must have a valid mobile number and e-mail address for registration which will be used for future communication between the Board and candidates. Candidates should enter their details very carefully during registration matching to all certificates as provided info cannot be altered later. Once registration details are provided, put your contact details including mobile number and e-mail address. now set a password and security question / answer. Match all registration details once again with relevant documents which will have to be produced during entrance of examination hall, counseling, admission and registration with the University. Note that this is the last time to review or change any details if required. Now submit the registration details. Once you click on submit button, a system generated application number will be generated which will be displayed on the screen as well as will be sent to the mobile number and e-mail address provided during registration. Now you may logout or continue to next step as follows.

Candidates have to fill up various personal details now. Choose any two zones of examination based on your preference. Submit the application. Again you may log out or continue to next step to upload your image. Candidates have to upload scanned images of their recent color photograph and signature. Images of photograph and signature will be in JPG / JPEG format having a storage size of 3 kB to 100 kB and 3 kB to 30 kB respectively. The dimension of photo and signature should be 4 cm x 3 cm and 4 cm x 1.5 cm respectively. Note that the same photo will have to be produced to take entry in the examination hall, during counseling, admission, and registration with the University.

Application fee

Once the images are uploaded, the application fee submission page will be opened automatically. A non-returnable application fee of Rs. 500/- exclusive of bank service charge should be paid through net banking or debit/credit card. On successful transaction, 'Confirmation Page' with download option will appear. Until this page appears, your registration is not complete. Don't forget to download the confirmation page and keep in safe custody.

Important dates to remember

  1. Online portal will open on 9th January 2020 for registration of online application and will remain open till 6th February 2020.
  2. Process of online correction as well as downloading revised confirmation page to be done within 7th to 9th February 2020.
  3. Tentative date to download admit card is 6th April 2020.
  4. Examinations will be held on 11th and 12th April 2020.
  5. Result will be published on 8th May 2020 tentatively.
