M.O.P Vaishnav College for women

Densely populated with cosmopolitan students, this pride of Chennai for women was made what it is today by its former illustrious Principal, Ms. Nirmala Prasad. The MOP Vaishnav College is autonomous, and, through interaction with students, it is known that the college follows a good model of education that never gives emphasis to cramming. It has undergraduate BA courses in English and Tamil literature, Economics, and Sociology. The college has several schools of specialization. The School of Business has a BA (Economics), B.Com (Accounting and Finance), and BBA. It also has B.Com. (Hons) course and the same course with Marketing Management and Corporate Secretaryship. The School of Social sciences has BA Sociology & B, Sc (Psychology). Graduates from this college are gainfully employed everywhere in India. There is an atmosphere of freedom and transparency. The electives are all geared towards industry-orientation. The college also has an MBA course of some quality and an MA course in Human Resource Management.

Madras Christian College

Founded in the year 1837, Madras Christian College, Chennai (MCC) is a direct competitor to Loyola College, Chennai as it targets the same target group of bright students. This college has produced a good number of Civil Servants. Once again, the teaching methods are similar. The spirit of inquiry and debate in every course is part and parcel of the teaching process. The course has all the traditional courses and some others like the Master's Degree in Social Work.

The college is a co-education college, autonomous college, affiliated to the Madras University and is famous for the intense competition between students.
