About INSA- JRD TATA Fellowship

Indian National Science Academy (INSA) is a premiere organization working extensively in the field of Science and Technology. This organization was established in 1935 by the joints efforts of several organizations and the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA). INSA has started INSA JRD -TATA Fellowship managed by CICS in honor of industrialist JRD Tata. The main aim of the fellowship is to provide opportunities to researchers of developing countries except India to work at an Indian research laboratory and to promote south-south co-operation.

Number of fellowships

There will about ten numbers of fellowships.

Duration of fellowship

Fellowship will be granted for a period of three months.

Eligibility Criteria

Researchers from developing countries other than Indians are eligible to apply for the fellowship. Also the applicant must have valid passport.
Note: Applicants must have the aptitude for research and willing of working in an Indian research laboratory

Educational Qualification

Applicants must have a Doctorate or Master´s Degree in Science or equivalent degree in Engineering/Medicine and allied disciplines.


Applicant having age below 45 years may apply for fellowship.

Fellowship Amount

Fellowship covers the following costs:
  • Cost of return airfare from place of work in their home country to a place of work in India.
  • Boarding and lodging costs.
  • Maintenance allowance and incidental expenses for three months.
  • Accommodation to be provided by the host institute.
  • Contingency grant for the purchase of books and stationery.

Documents to be sent with the application

  • A detailed CV having all details of academic qualification and research experience, scholarships and awards, membership of scientific bodies etc.
  • Brief Research proposal.
  • Two passport size recent photographs.
  • Degree Certificate copy of highest degree.
  • Consent letter from parent institute.

Selection process and award of fellowship

  • A selection committee will be formed who will scrutinized all the applications in the month of May.
  • Awardee can choose fellowship period mutually with the host institution.
  • After completion of short term research a brief report is to be submitted.
  • Feedback on usefulness of program is required to be submitted.

  1. Applicants must forwarded their application through appropriate authority.
  2. Applicants must obtain permission from their institutes.
  3. Applicants must obtain VISA for duration of fellowship.
