How to apply for Diploma Course in Dramatic Arts 2020-2023 at National School of Drama, New Delhi

National School of Drama in New Delhi is an autonomous institute functioning under the Ministry of Culture, India Government. If you are interested to join this institute for a diploma course in dramatic arts for the academic year 2020, this is the time. There is a three-year diploma course (full-time residential program) in dramatic arts that starts from July 2020 and the main aim of this course is to help students so that they can become an expert in the area of direction, acting, design and other theatre-related programs. English/Hindi will be the medium of instruction. Let us check the other details for this program.

Age limit

Candidates in the age range 18-30 as of 1 July 2020 are eligible to apply for diploma course in dramatic arts 2020-2023 at National School of Drama, New Delhi. SC/ST candidates will be given relaxation of 5 years in the case of the upper age limit.


Candidates with a graduation in any subject from a recognized University in India or abroad are eligible to apply for this program. In addition, they must have some working experience in English/Hindi languages. If they have participated in at least 6 different theatre productions, they need to submit a proof of the theatre experience which includes a certificate of participation, newspaper clips, brochure and leaflet. Also, they need to submit a recommendation letter from at-least any one theatre expert.

Is there any seat reservation for SC/ST/OBC (Non Creamy Layer)/ PwD candidates?

Yes,there will be reservations provided from the total number of seats. 4 seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the scheduled castes; 2 seats are reserved for scheduled tribes; 7 seats are reserved for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer as notified by the Government) and reservation for PwD and others will be done as per the rules of Govt. of India.

Selection process

There will be a two-phase process for selecting candidates for this program. First, the candidate needs to appear for a preliminary examination and if selected then they need to appear for a final examination workshop of 5 days in the School premises, New Delhi that will be held on June or July 2020. The aptitude and talent of the participants will be assessed by an Expert Committee of the school and their decision will be final.

Candidates can get information regarding the date of the preliminary interview through email during March/April 2020.

Note: For attending the final workshop, candidates will be provided accommodation and paid DA and bus fares from their Delhi residence. For more details regarding this information, candidates are requested to check the official website.

Candidates can fill and submit the online application form along with some necessary documents by visiting the official website of NSD. There will be an application fee of Rs 50/- which need to be paid online through Net Banking, ATM card, Credit Card(Master/Visa) or Debit Card(Master/Visa/Rupay).

You need to submit a crossed DD/pay order of Rs. 225/- (Rupees Two Hundred Twenty Five Only) including postal charges in favor of Director, National School of Drama, New Delhi that is payable at Delhi.

Will there be any financial assistance?

Selected candidates will be eligible for a monthly scholarship of Rs. 8000/- per month. to meet their academic and related expenses.

Is physical fitness required for the diploma course in dramatic arts 2020-2023 at National School of Drama in New Delhi?

All the students must undergo a medical test for physical fitness at NSD Delhi. The final selection of students will be done based on the clearance of the fitness test.
