The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) has announced admissions open for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) courses for the academic session 2020. Those who wish to appear for the term exam in June must submit their application before 31st January, while those who wish to appear for the term exam in December should apply before 31st July.

About Institute of Cost Accountants of India

ICMAI (previously it was known as The Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India or ICWAI) is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee this year. With its inception in 1944, it has progressively moved onward as a premier professional institute. It is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Govt. of India. The curriculum of the courses is designed to be up to date with industry requirements. Accordingly, management skills and strategies, regulatory functions, and financial reporting are part of the syllabus. Computer and soft skills training is also provided. There are six skill sets that are developed, namely, knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. There is a 12-day pre-placement orientation program for campus placements, these taking place for the summer and winter. The institute states that it has had a good placement record, with alumni employed in both private and public sector companies.


Foundation Course Eligibility requirements

You should have passed Class 10 or equivalent from a recognized Board or Institution. Additionally, you should have passed the Senior Secondary exam under the 10+2 scheme of a recognized Board or an equivalent exam recognized by the Central Government. Also acceptable is having passed the National Diploma in Commerce exam held by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or any State Board of Technical Education under the authority of the said All India Council or the Diploma in Rural Service exam conducted by the National Council of Higher Education. In case you are awaiting the results of the 10+2 exams, then, too, you can apply for provisional admission.

Once you have completed the Communication and Soft Skill (CSS) training as well as the complete computer training sessions, you are eligible to go apply for the Intermediate Course.

Intermediate Course Eligibility requirements

You should have passed the Senior Secondary School exam (10+2) as well as the Foundation Course of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India, or be a Graduate in any discipline other than Fine Arts or passed the Foundation (Entry Level) Part I exam of CAT of the Institute or the Foundation (Entry Level) Part I exam and the Competency Level Part II exam of CAT of the Institute. Additionally, you should have passed the Foundation of ICSI/Intermediate of ICAI, along with 10+2. You are advised to check the acceptable list of other qualifying exams in the official prospectus. Qualified Engineers are also welcome to apply. Those awaiting the results of the relevant exam can apply for provisional admission.

ICMAI-CMA Course Fees

For the Foundation Course

The cost of the prospectus is Rs. 250/-. The course fee is Rs.4000/-, for both Oral and Postal programs.

For the Intermediate Course

The cost of the prospectus is Rs.250/-. The course fee is Rs.20,000/-, for both Oral and Postal programs. However, you need not pay the entire amount at one go. You can pay in installments as well, with the first installment of Rs.12,000/- at the time of enrolment to the course. The second installment of Rs.8, 000/- has to be paid on or before 31st January.

Note: Students from foreign countries should check the official website to know the current fees for each course and remit the requisite fee in US$ only to the Head Quarters. Copies of documents to prove domicile (outside India) will also be required to be submitted.

On completing the Intermediate course, you become eligible to enrol for the Final Course (the fee for this is Rs.17,000/-). You then complete the Industry Oriented Training Programme (IOTP) as well as the practical training to be eligible to appear for the final exam. On qualifying the final exam, you complete further training and can apply and become a member of the Institute,

Application procedure for ICMAI-CMA courses

You have to first register online at the official ICMAI admissions portal with a user ID and password. Fill in the contact details, namely, your address, mobile number, and email ID. During the application process, you need to scan and upload through attachments, the following-
  1. Passport size colour photo in JPG or in JPEG format. Ensure that you keep ready multiple copies of this same photo, as you will require it for the print out taken of the application form and for an ID card.

  2. Age proof certificate in PDF format, with the size not exceeding 300kb.

  3. Your signature in JPG or in JPEG format).

  4. Documents supporting your educational qualification in PDF format, with the size not exceeding 300 kb in each file. These should include an attested copy of the Matriculation Certificate and an attested copy of the 10+2 certificate or Marks' Statement. For the Intermediate course, you will also need an attested copy of the Degree.

Important note: The copies of the certificates must be attested by any member of The Institute of Cost Accountants of India/The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India/The Institute of Company Secretaries of India/Parliament/State Legislative Assembly or a Gazetted Officer or a Principal of a college.

Next, proceed to make the requisite payment online, on successful completion of which you will get a welcome message. Your Identification number/Registration number will be generated once the process of verification of documents is completed and authenticated from the Directorate of Studies. Subsequently, the study material will be dispatched.

Important dates for admission to ICMAI-CMA courses

  • Last date for admission to the Foundation Course, registration for the Intermediate Course, and enrolment for the Final course is 31st January 2020 for the June term exam, and 31st July 2020 for the December term exam.

  • Exam dates for the June term exam: 11th to 18th June 2020.

  • Exam dates for the December term exam: 10th to 17th December 2020.
