Set up in 2008 under the Department of Labour and Skills, Government of Kerala, the Kerala State Institute of Design (KSID) became a part of the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE) six years ago. With the mentorship of the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad to develop the course curriculum, KSID has now come into its own, with graduates from KSID getting career opportunities as design professionals. The studios and labs are equipped with the requisite teaching aids and learning infrastructure. Thus, there are looms and sewing machines, tools for wood and bamboo work, computer-aided IT software, etc. There are plenty of print and digital sources of information in the library. The KSID campus has hostel accommodation for both boys and girls with an on-site canteen.
Beyond academics, KSID is playing a stellar role in conducting outreach programs for rural communities, providing assistance to start-ups and conducting research programs, all these helping towards the preservation and development of traditional culture and heritage.
About KSID courses and curriculum
KSID offers three Postgraduate Diploma Programs, with ten seats for each. Reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC candidates will be done on the basis of the State Govt. norms. Each of the programs is for the duration of 30 months, with five semesters.

From the basics of what design is all about, to acquiring hands-on experience in traditional techniques, students get a wide exposure to the field of design over their two and a half years of course work. The syllabus is based on that of the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad . Alongside classroom lectures, students work in studios and labs, and attend seminars and workshops. They can choose a field of specialization for their thesis work. Eligibility requirements for KSID courses
You must have a Degree in any discipline or equivalent qualification from a recognized university or institution, with a minimum of 55% marks. If you have appeared or are appearing for the final semester exam, then also you can apply, with your last available score aggregates to be given in the application. The acceptable upper age limit is 40 years. Some professional experience in relevant fields will be advantageous.
KSID Course Fees
As of the current academic session, the fees for each of the courses is as follows (though subject to change as per the decision of the institute's officials)-
In the case of students from SAARC Countries, African Countries, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam, the fee is USD5,000. For foreign students from other countries, the fee is USD12,000.
Note: The course fee will be refunded only to students who leave the institute on cancellation of admission on or before 15th July 2020. The refund (without interest) can be collected after the closing of admission for the year. Application process for KSID courses

During the online application process, the following documents must be scanned and uploaded-
If you are eligible for admission, you will be called for a Design Aptitude Test (DAT). The centres for DAT are at Trivandram, Ernakulam, Kozhikode Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.
Based on the scores in this test, if you are shortlisted, then you have to appear for a Studio Test and a personal interview. The final rank list, as well as a waiting list of candidates, will then be released, based on the scores of the studio test and the interview. KSID admission schedule
