NCHMCT 2020-22 online applications for M.Sc. Hospitality Administration courses


Want to get admission to M.Sc. Hospitality Administration courses in India? This article gives complete information on the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) entrance exam for admission to M.Sc. (HA) programs.

National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India has issued the notification for the M.Sc. Hospitality Administration (HA) entrance exam 2020. This exam is required for students who are seeking admission to the two-year M.Sc. (HA) program for the academic session starting in 2020. The course is jointly offered by NCHMCT and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

About M.Sc. (HA) program

The M.Sc. (HA) program is a two-year, full-time course. You can pursue this course at any of India's six Hotel Management Institutes which are affiliated to NCHMCT, namely at Pusa (New Delhi), Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, and at NCHM-IH in Noida.

On successfully completing the course, you can be employed in any field of hospitality, as the course equips you with a wide variety of useful skills, including technical, analytical, and managerial skills, and even develops an aptitude to teach. Thus, you get opportunities to take up faculty jobs, management positions in a private firm, etc. The learning modules include classroom contact sessions as well as counselling sessions. Mentorship by industry experts is a plus point, to keep you up to date with the industry's current trends, give you hands-on experience with case studies, and provide networking opportunities for professional growth on your career path.



Seat distribution at institutes

The seats available at each institute which is offering the M.Sc.(HA) the course is as follows (includes the actual intake + extra seats in case of dropouts)-

  • NCHM-IH, Noida: 53.

  • IHM, Pusa, New Delhi: 53.

  • IHM, Bengaluru: 33.

  • IHM, Chennai: 33.

  • IHM, Lucknow: 33.

  • IHM, Kolkata: 33.

Reservation of seats: 15% for SC; 7 ½% for ST; 27% for OBC (non-creamy layer); 10% for EWS; 5% for PD; and other reservations as per Govt. of India norms.

M.Sc.(HA) eligibility requirements

If you are seeking admission to the M.Sc.(HA) through JEE, you must have a B.Sc. degree in Hospitality and Hotel Administration from NCHM-IGNOU; or you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel Management from a recognized university and the institute should by an AICTE-approved one.

If you are appearing for the final semester / final year exam of the aforementioned degrees, and have passed all the papers in the previous semesters/years, then you can apply provided that you will be able to submit your Bachelor's Degree latest by 31st October 2020.

Eligibility for direct admission

You can seek direct admission to the M.Sc. (HA) program without having to appear for the joint entrance exam if you have scored an aggregate of 55% marks in the B.Sc. Degree in Hospitality and Hotel Administration from NCHM-IGNOU or a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel Management from a recognized university (the institute should be AICTE-approved) with at least two years (or more) of working experience in 3-star or above-rated hotel industry (note that the industrial training that you take up during the course is not considered as work experience).

If you are an industry-sponsored candidate with the requisite qualification as mentioned above and having work experience, you can seek direct admission to the M.Sc. (HA) program. However, you must attach the sponsorship letter from the organization with their application.

Note: no application fee through DD is required for these candidates to be sent along with the application form.

The table below shows the fee structure for the M.Sc. (HA) course. This is a tentative fee structure and may increase. Other fees, such as caution money, library fee, locker charges, etc are additional fees that you will need to pay at the time of admission.

NCHMCT 2020-22 application fees

The fee for the application form is Rs. 900/- for General and OBC category candidates, Rs.700/- for EWS category candidates, and Rs.450/- for SC/ST/PD category candidates. This fee has to be paid through a Demand Draft (DD), drawn in favour of NCHMCT payable at Noida or Delhi.

NCHMCT 2020-22 application procedure

Applications should be submitted in online mode only at the official website of Tourism & Hospitality Institute Management System or at the official website of NCHMCT.

On successful submission of the online application, take a print-out of it. The print-out of the filled-in application form along with the requisite fee through a Demand Draft and other requisite documents should be sent to NCHMCT, Noida (address provided below given for contact information) latest by 22nd April 2020. On the envelope containing the application, write 'APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO M.Sc. HA PROGRAM'.

Note that the seat allotment in the IHM will be only on the basis of merit in the written test and choice of the institute as opted for during the online application.

NCHMCT-2020 entrance test format

The entrance test is a two hour written test from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, with 100 multiple-choice questions. The questions will cover the topics of graduate level as well as general knowledge, general English and numeric aptitude. Test centres will be located at six IHMs, namely, Bengaluru, Chennai, Noida. Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai. Each correct answer will be given one mark, 0.25 negative marks will be given for each incorrect answer. Negative marks will also be given for a double attempt; that is, selecting one answer and then another answer as well. Zero marks will be given if the question is not attempted at all.

The subjects, the number of questions and marks allotted for each are as follows-
A. Graduate level questions
F&B Management: 10 questions, 10 marks.
Front Office Management: 5 questions, 5 marks
Accommodation Management: 5 questions, 5 marks
Revenue Management: 5 questions, 5 marks
F&B Cost Control: 5 questions, 5 marks
Facility Planning: 10 questions, 10 marks.
Strategic Management: 10 questions, 10 marks.
Human Resource Development: 10 questions, 10 marks.
Tourism Marketing: 10 questions, 10 marks.
Application of Computers: 10 questions, 10 marks.

B. General category of questions
Communication Skills in English: 10 questions, 10 marks.
Numeric Aptitude / IQ: 10 questions, 10 marks.



NCHMCT 2020-22 Schedule

Last date to submit online applications: 17th April 2020.
Last date of receipt of confirmation sheet along with DD and other documents at NCHM: 22nd April 2020.
Admit Card available online for download: 11th to 16th May 2020.
Entrance Exam (written test): 16th May 2020.
Declaration of first allotment list: 12th June 2020.
Report for admission to accept the allotted seat: 15th to 19th June 2020.
Declaration of second allotment list: 26th June 2020.
Report for admission to accept the allotted seat: 29th June to 3rd July 2020.
Last date for withdrawal, if any, Allotted seat in 1st and 2nd allotment lists, to full refund except Enrollment fee of Rs.1000: 8th July 2020.
Declaration of the third list to fill vacancies, if any: 17th July 2020.
Report for admission to accept the allotted seat: 20th to 24th July 2020.
Reporting at the allotted institute and induction to the program/commencement of classes: 25th July 2020.
