The boy in my class who is dyslexic

In this essay, I have narrated about a boy in my class who is suffering from dyslexia. Although he has difficulty learning, everybody cares for him very much. Teachers give him personal attention and he is coping well in our school.

In my class, some students are clever and some are slow learners. But, one of the classmates is dyslexic and he cannot easily read and write. He sits on the first bench in the first row and the teacher always monitors him. He is a cute boy who does not harm anybody but always remains silent. But our headmistress and teacher strictly instructed us, not to bully him but insisted we always help him. So, all my classmates show empathy for him.

How he got admission in our school

I am studying with my classmate from L.KG and he was my bench partner then. Everybody in the class wrote the alphabet quickly while he only stared at the blackboard. For nearly a month he did not write anything. The teacher noticed this problem and one day met his parents and she insisted on his parents teaching him only the letter 'A'. Then, his mother noticed that he was writing in a reverse way. His parents ultimately realized the problem and reported it to the teacher. Our teacher further reported the problem to the principal. Our principal is a considerate woman and hence she told them to visit a neurologist. The neurologist diagnosed the problem as 'dyslexia', a learning problem associated with reading and writing and the parents submitted the report to the principal.

The principal told them to visit the Board Education Officer and told them to fill a 'Special Child Form'. which was forwarded to NCERT. NCERT prescribed a separate syllabus for him known as 'IEP' which means Individual Education Plan. So, today, he has been prescribed a syllabus that is different from that for other students. Although he cannot easily read and write, he is a talented artist. He can quickly draw any object and also color it so wonderfully that everybody in the class gets wonderstruck. Our teacher has explained to us that every child in the world is special. A student is not academically inclined, but he may excel in other fields.

General profile and characteristics

He is born in a rich family and his bag is always filled with colorful books, compasses, fancy pencils, erasers, etc. Although he cannot still read or write easily, he understands the concepts taught in class. He answers the questions that are asked by the teacher. But, he cannot write it or read them. So he only appears for the oral exam and his syllabus for the written exam is different. When he was studying in the Kindergarten section, he was separately taken to the playground and was taught to carve letters in the sand. A special shadow teacher is hired and she visits him for an hour.

He cannot easily visualize the things around him. He cannot remember the location of the objects and cannot judge the position of the ball moving upward. But, he plays simple games such as 'running and catching', ringa-ringa roses, etc. He can follow the instructions of the headmistress and teachers. We continue to support him and encourage him so that he can become a well-known artist in the future.
