Applications open for IIM Bangalore N.S. Ramaswamy Pre-Doctoral Fellowship 2020

About Fellowship

The N. S. Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral Fellowship is a highly selective program started to increase the research activity and social diversity of management academia in India. This program is designed to help the candidates who are interested to carry out research in the field of management and allied disciplines and also help the selected pre-doctoral fellows successfully registration to doctoral programs.

Areas of Specialization

Selected fellows can carry out their research in the following disciplinary areas within management scholarship and research under the N.S. Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral Fellowship:

Program Details

  1. Under this scheme, fellows will have to join the PhD preparatory program.
  2. They will have to complete at least two doctoral or MBA level three-credit courses in their areas of interest and approved by the faculty mentor.
  3. A minimum of 40 hours of work per week is mandatory for a fellow under the supervision of the faculty mentor.
  4. A math clinic (1.5 hours per week) and a writing workshop (1.5 hours per week) are also mandatory.

Duration of program

This is a one-year apprenticeship programme.

Financial Support

Fellows will receive a monthly stipend along with other allowances. Details of fellowship amount are as given below:
  1. Monthly stipend: Each fellow will be given a monthly stipend of Rs.25,000.
  2. Waiver of full tuition fee: Full tuition fee will be waived off for any coursework during their fellowship tenure.
  3. House rent allowance: A house rent allowance will also be paid to the fellows @Rs. 8500 per month (current rate) or as per prevailing institute norms.
  4. Contingency grant: The fellows will be provided with a one-time contingency grant @Rs.25,000 per academic year(current rate) or as per prevailing institute norms. This amount can be used by a fellow for academic purposes approved by the mentor and the N. S. Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral faculty committee.
  5. Working space with a computer will be provided by the institute.

Educational Qualifications

A Master's Degree will only be considered. However, it may be a bachelor's degree obtained in 10+2+3 pattern, followed by a master's degree or a 5-year Integrated Master's Degree obtained after 10+2.
OR
Candidates with a professional degree like CA, ICWA, CS, etc.
OR
A 4-year/8-semesters bachelor's degree i.e. 10+2+4 pattern.
OR
Candidates in their final year of qualifying programs are also eligible and can apply for the program. However, they will have to submit a course certificate latest by June 8, 2020.
Note: Five percent marks relaxation will be given to applicants belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories.i.e., these applicants should have scored at least 50%, 45%, and 55% respectively.

  • Interviews Date: April 22 and 23 2020 (Tentative)
  • Offer letters issue date: April 27, 2020 (Tentative)

  • Registration date: June 8, 2020 (Tentative)

Note: Venue for the interview will be Bangalore only.

Target groups

Target group includes candidates belonging to SC, ST, NCL-OBC, PWD category (persons with disability as defined by the Government of India), applicants belonging to religious minorities (as defined by the Government of India), applicants completed their senior secondary education from rural areas or from Non-English medium schools or from a Navodya School, or schools wholly owned by state governments, gram panchayats, or urban local bodies and Women and transgender applicants.

Application Fee

An application fee of Rs.500/- is to be submitted by the fellow along with the online application. It is non-refundable.

Selection Process

Selection under this programme will be done by a two-step process:
  1. Application submitted will be screened and evaluated. Thereafter, only shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview.
  2. Final offer letter of fellowship will be sent to the candidates selected based on the evaluation of the application and their performance in the personal interview.
