How to apply for CPP-IPR Junior Research Fellowship

About Junior Research Fellowship

Centre of Plasma Physics - Institute for Plasma Research (CPP-IPR), is a centre of Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) and an autonomous body under the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India. It was established in the year 1991. CPP-IPR is located at Sonapur, Kamrup district of Assam. The centre has started its function from Dispur, Assam. Later it was moved to Kamrup district of Assam. Now the centre is engaged in a wide range of research and development activities especially in the field of basic plasma physics, magnetic confinement fusion and technological applications of plasmas. Now CPP-IPR has invited applications from meritorious students who wish to pursue doctoral research in the broad areas of experimental, computational and theoretical plasma physics.

Educational Qualifications

Candidate should have completed M.Sc. in one of the following subjects: Physics, Engineering Physics and Applied Physics with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks.
Note: Students must have Physics and Mathematics at the undergraduate level.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply for the fellowship the candidates should have to fulfil the following criteria. i.e. The candidate should have qualified at least one of the below mentioned national level examinations:
  1. JEST-2019 in Physics subject,
  2. GATE exam in Physics subject (subject code PH). Score must be valid for 2017/2018/2019 and
  3. CSIR-UGC-NET exam in December 2018, June 2019 or December 2019 in Physical Science (subject code PHY).
However, the candidates those who do not have a valid score in JEST/GATE/NET exam can also apply but they need to qualify the national level written test to be conducted by CPP-IPR itself.

Age Limit

Candidate's age should not be more than 28 years as on the last date of application. However, age relaxation is admissible to SC/ST/OBC/PHP etc. as per Govt. of India rules. Age relaxation of five years and three years will be given to SC/ST and OBC applicants, respectively. Age relaxation of ten years is admissible for Physically Handicapped Persons (PHP) of all categories.

Stipend

JRF will be paid an amount of Rs.31,000/- per month. However, after completion of two years, it will be raised to Rs. 35,000/- per month based on satisfactory academic performance.

Facilities

All other facilities will be provided to JRFs as per the institute's rule. Support to attend national conference/workshops/schools and partial support for attending a conference abroad will be given during their PhD tenure.

Application Procedure

Eligible and interested candidates can apply on a prescribed application form which can be downloaded from the official website of CPP-IPR.

Selection Procedure

The candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria may apply for JRF. Only shortlisted candidates will be called to appear for a national level written test. The venue of the written test will be CPP-IPR.

Written Test

There will be a single paper written test based on multiple-choice questions. The candidates who will be qualifying in the written test will be called for a personal interview at CPP-IPR. NET, JEST and GATE qualified students with valid score card need not appear in the written test. They can directly appear for the interview at CPP-IPR. Based upon the number of candidates who qualify in the written test and those having a valid score in NET, JEST and GATE examinations, the interview may be held on the same day of the written test or later as notified.

Date of Written Test

Written test will be conducted in April 2020 tentatively.
Note: No TA/DA will be provided to any candidate for attending the written test. However, to and fro sleeper class railway/bus fares via the shortest route will be paid to the candidates selected for personal interview on production of valid tickets.

Last Date

The last date for submission of applications is 31st March 2020.
