Call for proposals to develop antiviral nano-coating for PPE: COVID-19 by DST

DST has invited small proposals from academic groups and industrial groups to submit a proposal on nanotechnology for the development of nano-coating based products. These nano-coatings will be used on masks and other personal protective gears for health care workers. Interested groups can apply. If you belong to any academic or industrial group and want to apply, read the full article to know the details.

About the scheme

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is coming up with an idea to focus on the nanotechnology for its utilization in the treatment of COVID-19. DST has invited short term proposals for the development of antiviral nano-coating on masks and new nano-based material to be used in other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). After the successful development of this nano-based material, it will be transferred to industry for large scale production. These nano-coatings on PPEs will be proved as a milestone in India's war against the pandemic of deadly COVID-19.

The main reason behind this invitation of short term proposals by DST is to bring the academia and relevant industries together to submit their proposals so that they can work in collaboration and can complete the development of nanomaterial for PPE and it's scaling up production within a year.

Name of the scheme

"Developing antiviral Nano-coating and Nano based material for scale-up by industry and startups to combat COVID-19"

Objective

The main objective of this invitation is to develop antiviral nano-coatings and nano-based material for the production of anti-COVID-19 Triple Layer Medical masks and N-95 masks in large quantities. Apart from this, the development of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for protection of health care workers against COVID-19.

Selection process

  • Selection of the proposals will be based on a first come first evaluation basis.
  • Screening of the proposals will be done by peer-review.

Requirement

After the development of items will be transferred to industry. These nano-based products will require to meet the international as well as appropriate Indian Standards. Manpower support, or partial support for nano-coating testing to meet the International Standards will be provided by industries.

How to apply

  • Eligible and interested groups can apply and send their short proposals at Science and Engineering Board (SERB) portal.
  • Interested groups will have to register themselves first and then they have to log in to the portal using their credentials to submit their proposals.

What is the last date?

Last date to submit proposals on SERB online portal is 30.04.2020.
