About Development Scholarship
A partial scholarship for undergraduates and postgraduates is open at Charles University, Prague, Europe. The scholarship schemes are supported by the benevolent contribution from the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Faculty of Social Sciences. However, seats are limited and are for the students of all fee-based programs. This year's Development Scholarship scheme is now open and Charles University has invited applications from eligible and meritorious candidates. A total of eight scholarships are available in this academic year. The Development scholarship is provided on an annual basis which will depend on receiving further funding for future years.
Benefits of the scholarship
The selected candidates will receive a scholarship of CZK 75 000 (approx. EUR 3 000 or INR 2.5 Lacs).
The scholarship will be provided as a one-time lump-sum payment to the students.
This scholarship will be provided to support the student's necessary living costs.
Note: The tuition fee will not be waived off in this scholarship program.
Eligibility criteria
The applicant must be registered in any of the Faculty's fee-based study programs either in one three years Bachelor's programs or the two years Master's programs.
Existing students can apply for the scholarship in the first or second year of Bachelor's studies or the first year of Master's studies.
The fresh applicants must be registered to any of the fee-based programs.
The applicants from developing countries and countries with transition economy are eligible to apply.
The candidates should mention within the application about their financial requirement.
Financial Terms & Conditions
As soon as the selected candidates will register for their course and fulfil all other prerequisites, they will be paid the scholarship amount within the one month of registration at the start of the Winter semester.
Advance money as scholarship will not be given to students in any circumstances.
After payment of the tuition fee for the Winter semester, the scholarship payment will be done.
The scholarship will be awarded annually and the students will have to apply for the scholarship each year.
Students who are in their third year of Master's degree or the fourth year of Bachelor's degree will not be provided with any scholarship under any circumstances.
Application Procedure
The application is to be filled and submitted along with all necessary documents.
An application must include the following documents:
Completed application form. The application form can be downloaded from the website of Charles University.
Motivation essay (the maximum 1000 words) describing the need for a scholarship, and expected outcomes from your studies at Charles University.
Fresh applicants must submit a recommendation letter (2 nos.) from known teachers or professors, who know you from your previous studies along with confirmation of their financial need.
Existing students of Charles University must submit a recommendation letter from a known Faculty of Charles University. The recommendation letter must include confirmation of the financial need of the student.
Important Instructions
Fresh applicants, who will registered themselves in any course, must lodge an online application at the Charles University.
After login into the online application for their selected study programme, they must note the name of the programme on their application for a scholarship. Without this detail, their scholarship application will not be entertained. Original documents are to be submitted.
The candidates can send scanned copies of documents by email but original documents submission is necessary. The final decision regarding emailed applications can be made only after receipt of originals.
Application is to be filled clearly and in English language only.

Selection of applicants
After receipt of all complete and eligible scholarship applications by the due date, the applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Review Board. The Scholarship Review Board will assess each application and their submitted documents thoroughly and also consider applicants' previous studies results. Students who have not gained any opportunity to study abroad will be given priority. The selected applications will be recommended to the Dean of the Faculty for the final decision. The decision of the Dean will be the final regarding the students to be offered scholarships.
Submission deadline
The deadline for submission of scholarship application is April 30, 2020.
