Indian Council of Medical Research also known as ICMR New Delhi was earlier known as Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA). It was in the year 1949, IRFA was re-designated as ICMR, which is a premier medical organization of India. Now the latest news is that ICMR New Delhi in collaboration with the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh is inviting applications from eligible candidates for the Junior Research Fellowship(JRF) 2020. If you are interested to get a fellowship in the field of Biomedical Sciences and Social Sciences from a prestigious institute, this is the time for you. The selection will be based on your performance in the online examination that will be conducted nationwide. The important details are given below.

Number of fellowships

There will be reservations for SC, ST, OBC, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates will be as per the rule of India Government. Altogether there will be 150 fellowships of which the distributions will be like
  • 120 fellowships in the field of Biomedical Sciences with emphasis on Life Sciences (like Microbiology, Biotechnology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Human Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Immunology, Nursing, Zoology, Biophysics, Botany, Environmental Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (Not including Agriculture extension/ Soil Sciences)
  • 30 fellowships for the work with emphasis on Social Sciences like Statistics anthropology, Psychology, Social work, Sociology, Home Science, Public Health/Health Economics (Excluding Agriculture Economics)

Is there any age limit?

The upper age limit for admission to the eligibility test for ICMR Junior Research Fellowships 2020 is 28 years as on 30 September 2020. SC/ST, PwBD and Female candidates will be given a relaxation up to 5 years. There will be three years relaxation in the case of OBC candidates.



Educational qualification needed

General/EWS/OBC candidates with a minimum of 55% marks in MSc/MA or equivalent degree are eligible to apply for ICMR JRF 2020. But SC/ST and PwBD candidates require only 50% marks in the subjects mentioned above.

Are final year students eligible to apply for this fellowship?

Yes, candidates appearing in the final year examination in the 2019-2020 session can also apply.

Selection process

The candidates will be selected based on a National level online examination that will be held at the following centers on the respective date. The mode of examination will be a computer-based test(CBT).

Transaction charges will be applicable for General/EWS/OBC/ SC/ST candidates.
  • General/EWS/OBC - Rs.1500/
  • SC/ST - Rs. 1200/-
  • No fees for PwBD candidates
