About IUSSTF

Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) was established in 2000 between the Governments of India and the United States. It is an autonomous bilateral organization and funded jointly by both Governments. The main aim of this organization is to support the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Innovation through substantive interaction among government, academia, and industry. The IUSSTF is being directed by the Department of Science & Technology, Governments of India, and the U.S. Department of State.

Indo-U.S. Virtual Networks for COVID-19

The whole world is facing a challenge to cope with the Corona Pandemic. Many countries are trying to get the solution to this global challenge and are actively engaged in the development of new devices, vaccines, diagnostic tools, apps, etc. Science, Engineering, and Technology are playing a crucial role in finding solutions to this global epidemic and will help S&T communities. IUSSTF is calling application for its "Indo-U.S. Virtual Networks for COVID-19 programme" through global partnerships of Indian and U.S. scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs to work together to find solutions.

Types of Network Projects

Under this program, Indian and U.S. scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs will be engaged through Virtual Networks in COVID-19 related research and will carry out joint research activities taking advantages of the existing infrastructure and funding. These network projects are of two types:
  1. Knowledge R&D Networks: Through this virtual network Indian and U.S. scientists from Academia and National Laboratories will conduct joint research and encourage the integration of research and education.
  2. Public-Private Virtual Networks: This research network would enable Indian and U.S. scientists from Academia and Industry to collaborate on pre-commercial R&D activities having potential towards applied research and product development.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Each project proposal will be submitted by a team jointly by an Indian and U.S. Academic Institutions, Laboratories and/or Industries.
  • One Indian and One U.S. Institution or laboratory must be included in the proposal as applicants.
  • These academic Institutions, Laboratories and/or Industries must be actively engaged in research on COVID-19 funded by Federal Agencies.
  • All collaborators must have the required resources and must share the intellectual and financial stake in the activities for project execution.

Funding Details

Under this scheme, INR 25,00,000/- to INR 50,00,000/- (approx. $33,000/- to $66,000/-) will be granted per project.

Duration of Funding: IUSTTF will provide funding for a period of one and a half years.

Grant-in-Aid Details

Under this scheme, the funding would cover:
  • Partial support for Personnel including Students/Post Docs.
  • Basic support, including infrastructure, but limited supplies, if needed.
  • Limited travel support.
  • Contingencies will also be provided for dissemination of research, educational materials and reports.

Application Procedure

  1. The scheme is now open and applications are being submitted.
  2. Applications will be accepted online only. Interested team, including one Indian and one U.S. scientist, must register themselves on the website of IUSSTF.
  3. After registration, requisite details will have to be filled by the Team.

What are the Important Dates?

  • Start of online application: 15 April 2020 onwards.
  • The last date of application submission: 15 May 2020 till 11:59 PM.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this programme extendable?
No. The Indo-U.S. Virtual Networks for COVID-19 programme is of 18 months duration and will not be extended.
My institution has no global collaboration. Can I apply for this programme?
No. In the absence of collaboration, your institution will not be eligible for this programme. A collaboration of one Indian and one U.S. institution is mandatory.
