Mumbai University examination announcements and lockdown

Mumbai university recently announced the dates on which it is expected to conduct all final year examinations. This article is about the news and my viewpoints on it. Know details about the announcement and what should be taken care of during the exam.

The current conditions

Many students from Mumbai University were ready to give their final exam after lots of hard work and day-night study. Then COVID-19 happens and the government announces a total lock-down. Till now students have no clue when exams will be held and they will be relieved.

Many students are asking to cancel exams and give promotion on the basis of their previous achievements in similar/equivalent exams. The University should take into consideration the mental pressure on students and the current situation. It is not that easy to read the same subjects and doing the same things, expecting that exam will be announced at any time.

There are many students who are using these days at home and preparing hard for the exams. MU suggested that one should not take a lock-down period lightly but should use it effectively to study. Students are surrounded by fake news by some media as the official website has set no clue for them. Some sources also said that there might be online exams in case the lock-down does not end, but no official announcement was made about it yet.

Date in July is hinted for final year exams and CET

Shri Uday Samant, the higher education minister, said on Wednesday that all final year course exams, along with the Common entrance exam CET will be conducted in the month of July this year. We don't know exact dates yet but it is sure that we will get information about the dates soon in a couple of days.

announcement

On Tuesday Shri Uday Samant discussed with all other Govt-run university Vice-Chancellors via a video conference how to tackle the COVID-19 situation and to finalize the dates for pending exams.

How will be the exam process take place?

All the necessary action will be taken for COVID-19. The exams might be held in fewer days than usual without any holidays in-between two papers. This means less time for those who prepare themselves in the last hours before the final dates.

What should be considered?

It is good that the university indicated the expected dates a month ago, but it should also consider a few points otherwise it will result in a loss of years in many students' academic life. Here is what needs to be considered-
  • Many students and staff from colleges are in their native place due to the lock-down. There is no way that they can get to their campus locality or exam centers elsewhere in this lock-down period. The government should consider their problems and take necessary steps.

  • Even after getting an allotted area for the exam, the student should get the other facilities such as stationary, canteen, etc. All non-essential stores are banned currently.

  • The places where the exam is going to be conducted should be disinfected so that no one gets infected due to corona-virus. Sanitizer and masks if possible should be provided for free or cheap price for students and other related persons.

  • All other necessary precautions should be taken care of which is generally followed for COVID-19. There should be distance maintained between two students. No grouping should be allowed for studying at least in the college premises.
