United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) works in more than 150 countries and territories and has its headquarter in New York. UNFPA fund became operational in 1969. During 2013, a Civil Society Advisory Panel was also formulated by UNFPA to promote relations and communication with organizations, networks and partners on programming and policies. The current Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is Dr Natalia Kanem. She was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on 3 October 2017.

Eligibility Requirements

Selection of the interns for this programme will be on the basis of a competitive. The interns' profiles must be matched with the needs of the organization. The candidate should meet the criteria fixed by the organization. The following qualification will be considered:
  • Students must give either graduated within the last 1 year or must be enrolled in an advanced degree programme.
  • Students should be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Fluency in French, Spanish or Arabic languages will be given additional weightage.

Financial Features

  1. Financial remuneration will not be provided to students by UNFPA, however, students may receive a stipend for their daily expenses to the internship in case, if not financially supported by any institution, government, foundation, or scholarship programme.
  2. The students will have to make arrangements for living, accommodation, travel etc themselves.
  3. The expenses related to programs participation must be borne by either the intern himself or by the nominating institution.
  4. Medical insurance of students is a must during the internship period. Proof of medical insurance will have to be submitted by the student to UNFPA before the start of the internship.
