About UNFPA United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) works in more than 150 countries and territories and has its headquarter in New York. UNFPA fund became operational in 1969. The UNFPA works on the principle of gender equality rights and protection to all human beings. The fund focuses mainly on women and young people's because of the need of attention is required to these groups towards protecting their right to sexual and reproductive health like adolescent pregnancy, child marriage, gender-based violence etc. The organisation works mainly on three factors, i.e. population dynamics, human rights and cultural sensitivities. It educates communities about their human rights and makes them aware of their basic rights to which they are entitled. To fulfil this, they also empower the Government. Cultural complexities are also the major issues as they are very sensitive and sometimes taboo subjects, especially in case of rights of women and young people. The core mission of the organization is to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.
Since 1994, after the guidelines of the International Conference on Population and Development, UNFPA is partnered with governments, civil society etc. to boost its mission. During 2013, a Civil Society Advisory Panel was also formulated by UNFPA to promote relations and communication with organizations, networks and partners on programming and policies. The current Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is Dr Natalia Kanem. She was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on 3 October 2017.
The UNFPA identify lacking in the countries and contact government officials and also participates in public forums through training and monitoring and provide data and analysis by collecting resources and expertise. It highlights the critical and emerging issues.
About the ProgrammeUnder the UNFPA programme, interns will get an opportunity to familiarize with the operations of UNFPA. Only students who have extraordinary talent will be able to avail of this fellowship. The programme is designed in such a way so that the students will carry out the complement of development-oriented studies and get practical experience in various aspects of UNFPA work. The students who are applying for the internship should show their areas of interest in the field of development. Further, they will have to work in a different environment, different people and different culture. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is inviting applications for the Internship Programme 2020, provided that the interns will have to work under the supervision of a staff member at UNFPA.
