Nursing course and the B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) course for 2020. Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh invites online applications for its postgraduate nursing courses, namely the four-year B.Sc. Nursing course and the B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) course for the academic session starting this year. The courses are conducted by the National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), which is part of the campus and is affiliated to PGIMER.

About NINE at PGIMER Chandigarh

Started in 1964, the National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE) at PGIMER, Chandigarh offers postgraduate courses in the field of medical education and also provides facilities for research. The institute has all the requisite facilities in place, not to mention qualified teaching faculty, to provide a high-quality learning and training ambience. Students undergo four to five hours of clinical work daily throughout the course. As one of the most reputed medical institutes in India, it is not surprising that thousands of students enrol for the nursing and paramedical courses at PGIMER-Chandigarh.



The campus of PGIMER has the well-known Nehru Hospital that provides top-notch healthcare services and research blocks. There are also lecture rooms, an auditorium, conference halls, computer labs, recreational facilities, etc. All students have access to the Central library in addition to the library at NINE and can avail of medical services at the Staff clinic/OPD for health-related issues as per the existing rules. Students of the B.Sc. Nursing (4 years) course can avail of semi-furnished accommodation in the hostel (Rs.100/- for the application form) as per the seniority on the joining date and the merit list drawn up after the entrance test. B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) students, though, do not have hostel accommodation.

Co-curricular activities include workshops and symposiums while extracurricular activities include indoor games, celebrating festivals, exhibitions, an annual sports day, yoga day, etc. Students can sign up for the National Service Scheme (NSS) through which they participate in activities at the campus and in the rural environs of Sarangpur, which has been adopted by the NSS unit. Students are welcome to approach the anti-ragging committee if required and take counselling from the qualified Clinical Psychologist.

B.Sc. Nursing four-year course

There are 93 seats for the B.Sc. Nursing (4-year) course at National Institute of Nursing Education, Chandigarh, out of which 47 are for General Category candidates, 14 for SC, seven for ST, 25 for OBC, and five for PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disability). All students who are enrolled in this course receive a monthly stipend of Rs.500/- from the institute for the entire duration of four years. On completing the course, if offered a job within six months at the PGIMER, Chandigarh, and other Central Govt. Institutions, then you are required to take up the job for a period of three years. A bond to this effect will have to be signed on getting admission to the course.

Eligibility requirements

Educational Qualification: You should have passed the 10+2 exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English or any other equivalent exam with at least 50% marks in aggregate.

Age criteria: You should be not more than 17 years on 1st September 2020.



B.Sc. Nursing (Post-basic) course

There are 62 seats for this course, out of which 22 are for General Category candidates, seven for SC, four for ST, 14 for OBC, 15 for PGI staff (Gen-9, SC-2, ST-1, OBC-3), and three for PwBD.

Eligibility requirements

Educational Qualification: You should have passed the 10+2 exam or any other equivalent exam and passed General Nursing and Midwifery with a minimum of 50% aggregate.

Nursing Qualification: You must be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife qualified from a recognized Institute and Registered with the respective State Nursing Council as approved by Indian Nursing Council (INC). A substitute registration is permitted in case of male candidates fully qualified for the nursing of men, women, and children.

Age criteria: You should be not more than 45 years on 1st September 2020.

Admissions for foreign students

Students from foreign countries are also welcome to apply for the nursing courses. They must submit their applications through the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi. They are also required to obtain the requisite eligibility certificate from the Registrar for PGIMER, Chandigarh, and a clearance certificate from the Indian Nursing Council (INC), submitting these along with their application.

B.Sc. Nursing Course Fees

The table below provides details of the fees for both the courses, as well as the fees for hostel accommodation.

Application fee

The application fee is Rs.1200/- for students applying in the SC/ST category and for all others it is Rs.1500/- (additional transaction charges will apply). Students who are applying in the PwBD category do not have to pay any application fee.

How to apply

Students should register and apply through the online mode only at the official admissions website of PGIMER. The application form is available under the section of 'information for candidates' on the home page, wherein the link to the admission notification is given. Make sure, though, that first, you go through the prospectus and instructions for applying.

The application fee also has to be paid online with a credit/debit card or via internet banking. Ensure that you keep ready scanned documents of the following-
  1. A recent passport size color photo (max. 50-200 KB size in JPEG/JPG format)

  2. The recent signature (max. 50-200 KB size in JPEG/JPG format)

  3. Category/Caste certificate if applicable (max. 1 MB size in JPG/JPEG format)

  4. Document that is proof of the date of birth certificate (max. 1 MB size, in JPG/JPEG format)

  5. The qualifying Degree certificate (max.1 MB size, in JPG/JPEG format)

On successful submission of the online application, students should download and take a printout to retain it for future requirements.



Entrance test

The Computer Based Test (CBT) is an online one in English of 90 minutes with 100 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. At the time of the online application, you can select your choice of city for the test. There are seven cities, namely, Shimla, Hamirpur, Chandigarh (Tricity), Ambala, Jalandhar, Bathinda, and Ludhiana.

Subjects covered in the entrance test and no. of questions & marks are-
For B.Sc. Nursing (4 Years) course: Chemistry (25), Physics (25), Biology (25), English (15), General Knowledge/Current affairs (10).

For B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic) course: Scientific Principles Applied in Nursing Practice & Trends in Nursing (10), Medical-Surgical Nursing (including Anatomy and Physiology) (20), Child Health Nursing (15), Community Health Nursing including Nutrition (15), Obstetric Nursing and Midwifery (15), Mental Health Nursing (15), and General Knowledge (10).

Important dates

Online registration and application begins: 20th May 2020.
Online application and payment of online fee end: 20th June 2020, 11.55 p.m.
Computer-Based Entrance Test: 28th July 2020.
Tentative date of the result: 7th August 2020.
The last date to submit qualifying 10+2 certificate and marks sheet: 10th August 2020.
Counselling session: 17th August 2020, at 11 a.m.
