How to get admissions to PG Biotech Govt. courses through RCB-GAT-B 2020

The Regional Centre for Biotechnology, which was set up by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India has announced the schedule for the Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology 2020 (GAT-B 2020). This replaces the earlier Combined Entrance Examination for Biotechnology (CEEB) that was held by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The rank based on scores obtained in GAT B 2020 will enable students to seek admission to postgraduate courses in participating institutes that are supported by the Department of Biotechnology.

The rank obtained through RCB-GAT-B is valid only for the academic session of 2020-21 and not for the future academic years. Also, the institutes will issue separate admission notifications and have their own selection process for the courses.
There is a total of 1221 seats across the institutes, for 62 PG courses. At whichever institute you get admission, there is a stipend supported by DBT for specific courses. The stipend is as follows-
(i) Rs. 5000/- monthly stipend for M.Sc. in Biotechnology courses and in Allied areas.
(ii) Rs.7500/- monthly stipend for M.Sc. in Agricultural Biotechnology courses.
(iii) Rs.12,000/- monthly stipend for M.Tech./M.V.Sc. courses.

The RCB-GAT-B exam is a Computer-based Test (CBT) that comprises of two sections, both of which have to be answered within the single shift of totally 180 minutes' duration.
The first part, which is Part A, has 60 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) all of which are mandatory to be attempted. The syllabus of the questions in this section is as per the 10+2 level, covering the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Biology. You will be awarded one mark for a correct answer and half mark will be deducted for an incorrect answer.
The second part, that is Part B, also has Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) that will gauge your analytical skills. Out of the 100 MCQs in this section, you need to attempt a minimum of 60. The subjects on which the questions are based are basic Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, and allied areas. A correct answer will get you three marks and one mark will be deducted for an incorrect answer. The syllabus on which the questions of Part B are based includes General Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Recombinant DNA Technology, Plant and Animal Biotechnology, and Bioprocess Engineering and Process Biotechnology.How to apply for RCB-GAT-B 2020
Applications should be submitted in online mode at the RCB-GAT-B 2020 registration portal only after reading the instructions as given at the official website. Ensure that you have a valid email ID and a mobile phone number that functions properly.
The application fee also has to be paid online, which is Rs. 1000/- for General category candidates and for OBC candidates, and Rs. 500/- for SC, ST, EWS, and Differently abled candidates. Once you make the online payment, you will not be able to edit or change any details submitted in the online application. So it is advisable to preview all the information that you have entered in the application before submitting and paying the fee.
You can submit only one application and are allowed to select your test center out of the list of 57 centers that have been provided, but note that due to the COVID-19 situation, the centers may be shifted or changed as per guidelines of State Governments.
Wherever applicable, upload the required documents during the online application procedure, including mark sheets, IDs, proof of date of birth, scanned photo and signature, etc. The following documents are available at the official website for those who will require to submit them at the time of admission - the form of the certificate to be produced by OBC candidates; the form of certificate to be produced by SC/ST candidates; the income and assessment certificate to be produced by EWS candidates; and disability certificate.
In case you have appeared for the final year exam, you need to submit an attested form in the prescribed format that is duly certified by the Head of the Institute with stamp (with address and name) from where you are appearing for the qualifying degree. In case you are unable to furnish the certificate due to the COVID-19 situation, you can submit the undertaking in the prescribed format that is provided on the website.Important dates
