MCA or Master's in Computer Applications is one such course which is offered online in India by quite a few distance education universities. If you are looking for studying this course, then you can do it online in any of these 4 colleges.

Introduction

The current emergency situation has forced a lot of traditional things to change. The traditional classroom policies to conduct education are changing for a lot of institutes. In some institutes, this situation might be permanent. Online education has proved to be helpful for both teachers and students and now in this COVID 19 situation, it is proving to be essential. Right now, some institutes are also opening MCA courses online. If you have completed your bachelor's in Computer Applications, then this is a good career choice for you. In fact, in many distance education universities, you will be considered eligible for MCA course, if you have completed graduation (the stream or major subject of graduation doesn't matter in this case).

Eligibility criteria

Let us take a look at the eligibility criteria, before going into the details of the institutes that offer them.
  1. The basic eligibility requirement as mentioned earlier is completing graduation. Some institutes require a minimum of 45-50% in the aggregate of graduation. This percentage varies depending on the institute.
  2. If you are studying in distance education institute, then one added advantage is that you need not have a major subject in your graduation. In some institutes like IGNOU, you need to have Mathematics as one of the science subjects in your higher secondary. Other than that, distance education institutes don't put a restriction on the major subjects to be taken in the graduation.
  3. Generally there is no admission test to select candidates. Therefore, the admissions are conducted on merit basis and also as long as the seats are vacant. One other advantage of having online MCA courses will be that since the classes are held virtually, the number of seats might be more than the usual.
  4. If you have some work experience in the field of Information Technology, then it is a bonus. Although it is not mandatory to get one before you join; however, it helps if you do a job before you start your MCA course. My daughter studied MCA directly after her graduation. Now I feel, it was a big mistake, and she could have done it after a year or two doing a job. Then, her MCA course experience would have much smoother.
