2020 Online admissions open for Kathak dance and music courses at Kathak Kendra New Delhi

Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, India has opened admissions for its next academic session of 2020-21 for all its training programs of Kathak dance and music. Overview
Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, which is home to the world-famous National Institute of Kathak Dance, is a constituent unit of Sangeet Natak Akademi, an autonomous organization under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
Kathak Kendra has issued the admission notification for its dance and music programs for the academic session 2020-21, including full-time courses and refresher courses. It should be noted, though, that once you are enrolled in any of the courses, then you cannot take up any form of outside work, such as one of an accompanying musician in a stage performance or choreographing for a dance scene in a television serial. You may participate in external activities that are organized as part of the course or approved beforehand by the Director of the institute. For all courses, students are expected to be physically and mentally fit and are able to read and write English or Hindi fluently. It is mandatory to appear for the two exams, one in December and the other the final in May.

Foreign nationals can also apply for any of the institute's courses provided they fulfil the age and other eligibility criteria and have about three years of training in the field of Kathak dance or music, as applicable. Such students should apply through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, which is located at Azad Bhavan, I.P. Estate, New Delhi-110002 because direct applications will be rejected.
Kathak Dance Courses
Kathak Dance Advance courses
The advance courses are on a full-time basis. Other than the regular classes, classes in related subjects may also be scheduled and students will be required to attend seminars and workshops.
Diploma (Hons.) Course: For this three-year course you should be between 18 to 23 years of age as on 1st July 2020 and have successfully completed a Diploma course from Kathak Kendra or any equivalent training program. It is desirable to have training or experience in Hindustani Vocal music, Tabla or Pakhawaj with experience or interest in any other creative discipline such as literature, theatre, visual arts, etc.
Post-Diploma Course: This course is of two years' duration for which you should be between 20 to 26 years, as on 1st July 2020 and should have completed Diploma (Hons.) from Kathak Kendra or have equivalent training, such as training in Tabla/ Pakhawaj, Hindustani Shastriya Gayan and have a general theoretical understanding of Kathak and its related aspects.
Refresher Course: This short-term course of six months is scheduled on certain days of the week and is for those who are dance teachers in a dance institute or school. To be eligible for the course, you should be below 40 years as on 1st July 2020 and have successfully completed the Diploma (Hons.) Course/Post Diploma Course from Kathak Kendra or have equivalent training.
Preparatory Course: This one-year course is only for the Diploma programs and admission is open to those between 18 to 23 years of age.
Music Advance Courses
Diploma Course (Tabla/Pakhawaj): This course is of 5 years' duration and for being eligible for admission to the first year you need to be between 15 to 20 years as on 1st July 2020.
Special Course in Vocal Music: Meant especially for those who have some basic grounding in vocal music, you can get admission to the first year of the three-year course if you are between 18 to 30 years of age as on 1st July 2020.

Foundation Course: The duration of this course is 5 years and is suitable for those who would already be having prior exposure to Kathak training. It would also be good to have an innate sense of rhythm and music so as to be able to bring it out through facial expressions and body movement. To be eligible for the course, you should be between 10 to 15 years as on 1st July 2020 and have good communication skills with the ability to read and write in Hindi or English as well.
Diploma (Pass) Course: The duration of this course is three years and you can pursue this course if you have some interest in an art form, whether visual arts or theatre, music or dance. For admission to the first year of the course, the minimum age is 15 years and the maximum age is 20 years as on 1st July 2020. You should have completed your school education of at least Class 9 and be able to speak, read, and write in English or Hindi reasonably well as per your age. Music Elementary Courses
Tabla/Pakhawaj Certificate Course: This one-year course for youngsters can be taken up if you have some basic talent with an aptitude for playing percussion instruments, with sensitivity to rhythms. Only those between 14 to 17 years of age as on 1st July 2020 are eligible to apply and should have completed Class 6 at least of their school education. Basic conversational, reading and writing skills are also required.
Tabla/Pakhawaj Diploma Course: For admission to the first year of the five-year course, you should be between 15 to 20 years of age and have a minimum of one year's training in Tabla/Pakhawaj.
Special course in Vocal Music: Those with basic knowledge of vocal music can get admission to the first year of this three-year course. The age criteria is between 18 to 30 years.Online application procedure for Kathak Kendra courses
