Not happy with your class X or XII marks in the recent results released by CBSE? Will like to verify your marks and re-evaluate your answer sheets? Learn here through this informative article about the application procedure, the last dates and the verification & re-evaluation fees.

Now that the CBSE results for both class X and XII are out, CBSE has opened an online window for students to apply for verification and re-evaluation of answer books. For class XII, the students can apply for verification of marks from 17 to 21 July 2020 and class X students from 20 to 24 July 2020. For re-evaluation, the students can apply subsequently, after the verification is done. The details of the dates are given in the subsequent paragraphs in this article. The entire procedure for verification of marks and re-evaluation of answer books is a 3-step process, as explained below.

The three steps:

  1. Verification of marks
  2. Applying for a photocopy of evaluated answer book
  3. Re-evaluation of answers

Verification of marks

This is the first step of this re-evaluation process. One can apply for verification of marks for one or more than one subject. A processing fee of Rs 500 per subject is to be paid for verification. In this step, the marks of the concerned subject will be re-totalled. In case there is any change in marks, whether increase or decrease, the candidate will be notified through email or by speed post. The marks will get updated on the CBSE website also. In case there is no change in marks, there will not be any mail by CBSE, but the same will be updated on its website.

Applying for a photocopy of answer books

After you have asked for your marks to be verified and you are not satisfied with the results, you may apply for a photocopy of the evaluated answer book to be shown to you. For applying for a photocopy of your answer book, you will have to pay Rs 500 per subject for class X. For class XII, the processing fee is Rs 700 per subject. It is to be kept in mind that you can only apply for the answer book photocopy of that subject for which you had earlier applied for verification of marks. Say for example, if you did not apply for verification of marks for your English paper, then you cannot apply for its photocopy. Once your request is approved, you will be provided with a scanned copy of the evaluated answer book. You can access it by login to your account in the CBSE website. You can check for discrepancies, if any, in evaluating any of the answers. If you find that one or more of the answers have not been evaluated to your satisfaction and the marks given are less, you may then apply for re-evaluation of the answer(s).

Re-evaluation of answers

In the final step of this 3-step process, a student may apply for re-evaluation, if he or she is not satisfied by the awarded marks. One can challenge the awarded marks for one or more than one answers. For re-evaluation, a student will have to pay Rs 100 per answer. This is again to be kept in mind that you may apply for re-evaluation for only those subjects, for which you had earlier applied for a photocopy of the evaluated answer book. Instead of the entire answer book, only those answers will be re-evaluated for which you apply. The results of the re-evaluation will be sent by email or speed post as might the case be and will be uploaded on the CBSE website, as well.

How to apply

For applying for verification and re-evaluation, the students will have to visit the official website of CBSE. Once there, click on the tab, where it says, 'Schedule for verification of marks' and beneath it, 'Apply online here'. You will be led to a page, where you will get to apply online for the verification of your marks and pay the necessary processing fee. At this page, you will also get to know the status of your application.

Few important points to remember

  • The above verification and re-evaluation is a step-by-step process, which has to be processed sequentially. You cannot bypass the previous steps and directly apply for the later ones. For example, after applying for the verification of marks only you can apply for the photocopy of the answer sheet. Similarly, for the 3rd and final step too.

  • The students have to apply within the prescribed dates and by paying the prescribed processing fees for each step.

  • The processing fee is to be paid only through online channels like net banking, credit and debit cards. The fee will not be accepted in the form of cash, cheque, DD, money order or postal order.

  • Applications that are incomplete or sent through offline channels will be rejected and no intimation will be sent on this.

  • The students can apply only once per step. In case you want marks for more than one subject to be verified, then you need to apply for all of them in the same application. You won't be allowed to apply again. The total processing fee will be as per the number of subjects you have applied.

  • After verification or re-evaluation, even for a single mark decrease, it will be affected. Students who have their marks changed, whether increase or decrease, will have to surrender their previous mark sheet. They will be provided with a new mark sheet with the changed marks.

  • After the verification and re-evaluation process, marks awarded, if any, will be final and binding on the student. Thereafter, no further claims will be accepted by the CBSE. The processing fees once paid are also non-refundable.

  • You are advised to keep a track of the CBSE website www.cbse.nic.in for the status of your verification or re-evaluation request.
